Grassmarket got a reaction from bmo in Athletics WA Diamond League 2020
Entry lists for Monaco DL, yes, that is the Proper Actual Diamond League, not a load of kindergarten sports day made-up events.

The bad news is that Eurosport are not covering it so it will be hard to follow in many countries.

Well, if the Ain is a prediction for the TdF, it’s going to be a dull race. Ineos go the the front, drive up the climb. Jumbo-Visma go to the front, drive up the climb. 500m from the top, Ineos & J-V fight it out for the win & bonus secs.
Anyway, today Roglić - no hang on, that’s not right - Roglič takes the stage & the Tour.

We in Great Britain are now obliged to wear a mask if we visit aquariums. Not quite sure if this includes Chinese restaurants, or what happens if you have an aquarium at home.

As the Marballympics reaches its climax, the Marbulla-E season resumes with a visit to Berlin....
No spoilers, but an exciting race & a lot more changes of lead than you will ever see in the four-wheel version of the sport.

Cool win from Richard Carapaz . Jumped with about 400k before the sprinters started, just held on for the win.

Bah, Humbug.
No mass dancing. No light shows. No allegorical representations of the Sun Goddess being born from the depths of the ocean.
London 1948. The Austerity Olympics.
Military band marches, plays some tunes.
Athlete’s Parade.
King declares Games open.
Olympic flame lit.
Everyone leaves the Stadium & queues for the bus home.

Great news is that the very truncated World Athletics Continental Tour starts again next week. As you may remember - if you have very long memories - this is the 2nd level of World Athletics, but normally includes some very good meets like Hengelo, Berlin, Madrid etc.

The GOLD level meets will all be live on YouTube. So first one is at Turku on Wednesday. And there will also be some Diamond League meets, starting in Monaco in one week

Grassmarket reacted to Monzanator in Your Favorite Opening Ceremonies
I usually don't watch the full opening ceremonies, I'm not an artistic soul by any means so I quickly forget about them even if I see some extra action. I really only watch the nations' parade and the lightning of the cauldron

We are off again with the Dénivelé Mont Ventoux, which as its name suggests......
Nairo Quintana starts as favourite, also young Russian Aleksander Vlasov who was second in the Occitanie earlier. Exotic presence of the Cambodian Cycling Academy team, which has no actual Cambodians in it.
Ineos not in the race today so Astana are playing the Ineos tactics - everyone to the front of the pack & grind it out.

Agree with the comment about the poor quality of this event, would not like to see it carried over to future Marbalympics. Typical performance from the Yellows - shocking first run, but some pride restored on the second. Not enough to get us out of the relegation zone though.

The problem is that it is not sexual abuse, which is criminal, but allegations of various forms of emotional tactics which may or not be abusive. I doubt they would seen as abusive in 99% of male sports.
Certainly if NZ female gymnasts feel that the Commonwealth Games are too stressful for them, then perhaps they should be looking at other, less damaging, career options.

Ciao , andiamo!
Well, either we are not having a steeple tonight or Italians are tough - there’s no water.
Pozzi wins the 110h easily, but as usual hit the last two hurdles, would have cost him more in a bigger race.

Very definitely a different sport here in Europe, much rougher, steeper tracks for hill running. Really a hardcore sport for amateurs or part-timers.

Grassmarket got a reaction from bmo in Which Sports Events are you Currently Watching?
Well, we got almost a respectable weekend’s sport here.
Rugby League - NRL continues & Super League restarts on Sunday. Sadly Toronto have had to withdraw for the year owing to the impossibility of the whole thing under CV
MLB - Yankees v Red Sox series!
Cycling - 2 Strade Bianchis tomorrow, Tour de l’Ain starts.
Athletics - Quality meet from Trieste.
Plus Football including English & Portuguese Cup Finals, snooker, cricket, marbles....

Do know for sure that the first time the Downhill was run in Garmisch 1936 they had to climb. Or perhaps a car half-way up, or something but definitely some climbing.
The other thing I do know was that the tuck position was only introduced in the early 60s, so they were never going all out before that.
As you can see in the film, they are still racing in powder, so way slower.
