Another big name, Tirunesh Dibaba drops out after a couple of laps. Crowd not getting value for money, very annoyed, throwing things on the track, riot police summoned, firing tear gas....disgraceful scenes, really. Mascot is a gingerbread man, according to the BBC. Will be on duty for the Europeans.

See, this is an ideal event through which we can introduce transgender sport. Instead of the deeply unsatisfactory two-men, two-women races which always end in a tie, you could have one man, one woman & one ts, which would always give a clear win.

To be fair they are both sitting in separate locations in Scotland and commenting off the screen, so they are not always able to work together the way they normally do. There’s already been a few races this year when they couldn’t contact at all & someone in ES Paris has had to take over.

Hanna O 19/20 & big lead. Only Hauser can beat her. Lien 3/5 Hauser 18/18......18/20. Eckhoff 11/15 Looks like Oeberg’s race, barring a late charge from an outsider.

Hauser also 15/15 & faster than Lien. Wierer finishes 18/20, doubt that is enough for a medal. Justine Braisaz 14/20 Roeiseland 14/15.

Right, proper Biathlon starts now! Problems for Vittozzi already. 3/5. All three French with early misses. Wierer 10/10.... Hanna Oeberg 10/10, with a 20 sec lead. Wierer 14/15 now, will be hard to win.

Good to see Alex Tilley qualified. As a rule, the shorter the course, the less chance she skis into the barriers.
