  1. That was way, way too close for comfort but, then again, what’s new? Switzerland always seems to play really well against Canada.
  2. Thank you Saudi Arabia for blockading Quatar, preventing them from co-hosting the World Cup to allow FIFA to expand it to 48 teams.
  3. It’s a League of Legends tournament, the Mid Season International. Featuring the champion of the Spring season of the various regional leagues. It’s a bit like a mini world championship (but obviously quite a bit less prestigious than the real thing).
  4. What a joke... Like, seriously, they are deciding 3/4 of the field *before* publishing the qualification system. ?
  5. @hckosice do you have a link to the qualification system? I can’t find it anywhere.
  6. This live stream is an embarrassment. Stutters nonstop and the audio is way out of sync.
  7. Just went through the whole Phoenix Wright trilogy (big fan of that series and Danganronpa), so that was like 60 hours of my time. Over the last year I’ve mostly played Hitman 2, Rocket League, Steep, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy XV, TT The Walking Dead, Life is Strange BTS / 2, The Council, Chrono Trigger and KOTOR. Also Smash Ultimate on Switch.
  8. Skylar Park made it to the semi-finals, winning her first world medals at 19. She has a very tough semi-final matchup against two time Olympic champion Jade Jones. Park is probably the most exciting Canadian prospect in Taekwondo ever.
  9. Almost exclusively a PC gamer.
  10. Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods both said today that they will likely play in Tokyo if they qualify for the Olympics.
  11. And his wife’s cousin is the head of the Slovak golf association.
  12. Lol that guy has South African, American, British *and* Slovakian citizenship.
  13. I’m honestly shocked at how many people didn’t see this coming.
  14. In the last tournament of the year (the France women’s 7s) Canada will qualify if they finish at least tenth, if Australia fails to finish in the top 8 or if France fails to win the tournament. Australia will qualify as long as they finish in the top 6 or as long as France doesn’t finish in the top 3. France basically needs to win the last tournament and hope for some help. No other team can qualify through the World Series.
  15. Ajax scored one away goal, Tottenham three, so Tottenham qualifies. Oh, and COYS!
  16. Meh, especially on the women’s side it isn’t unheard of for really young swimmers to peak very young and to kind of wash out.
  17. I honestly think it’s a pretty brillant use of space. I also don’t really a big problem with swimming being held outdoors tbh.
  18. Those are a bunch of really nice white elephants.
  19. Malaysia and Austria along with Italy and Canada will face-off for a guaranteed Olympic Qualification match berth.
  20. Ya I don’t think South Korea’s relative success is sustainable, especially if they stop recruiting marginal pros from Canada and the US.
  21. After 2/11 events, the following athletes are provisionally in a qualifying position from the World Surf League. Note: athletes from Hawaii are marked with (HAW) as they compete separately in Surfing. I am only including athletes that are qualified to compete on the tour in the selection battle (theoretically an athlete that isn't on tour could qualify for enough events to be selected, but this is unlikely). Men (HAW) John John Florence Italo Ferreira Jordy Smith Filipe Toledo Kolohe Andino Ryan Callinan Owen Wright Kanoa Igarashi Michel Bourez Jérémy Florès The first athlete not qualified is Ricardo Christie, followed by Leonardo Fioravanti. American selection battle: (HAW) John John Florence - 16,085 points Kolohe Andino - 9,130 points Conner Coffin - 8,065 points (HAW) Seth Moniz - 8,065 points Kelly Slater - 5,010 points (HAW) Ezekiel Lau - 2,660 points Griffin Colapinto - 1,595 points (HAW) Sebastian Zietz - 1,330 points Brazilian selection battle: Italo Ferreira - 14,745 points Filipe Toledo - 11,120 points Gabriel Medina - 9,490 points Wilian Cardoso - 6,640 points Yago Dora - 4,650 points Peterson Crisanto - 4,650 points Deivid Silva - 4,650 points Michael Rodrigues - 2,660 points Jesse Mendes - 1,595 points Jadson Andre - 1,595 points Adriano de Souza - 530 points Australian selection battle: Ryan Callinan - 7,415 points Owen Wright - 6,640 points Wade Carmichael - 5,010 points Mikey Wright - 4,650 points Reef Heazlewood - 4,650 points Julian Wilson - 2,660 points Adrian Buchan - 2,660 points Soli Bailey - 2,660 points Jack Freestone - 2,660 points French selection battle: Michel Bourez - 4,650 points Jérémy Florès - 4,650 points Joan Duru - 1,595 points Women Caroline Marks (HAW) Malia Manuel Stephanie Gilmore Sally Fitzgibbons Tatiana Weston-Webb Johanne Defay Brisa Hennessy Paige Hareb The only unqualified athlete is Silvana Lima, who has yet to compete this year due to an injury. She will likely go ahead of Hareb if she recovers this season. American selection battle (where the real action is on the women's side, the US has 7 of the top 12): Caroline Marks - 16,085 points (HAW) Malia Manuel - 13,885 points Courtney Conlogue - 12,610 points (HAW) Carissa Moore - 12,545 points Lakey Peterson - 8,695 Sage Erickson - 7,355 (HAW) Coco Ho - 7,355 Australian selection battle: Stephanie Gilmore - 9,490 points Sally Fitzgibbons - 8,695 points Nikki Van Dijk - 5,220 points Bronte Macaulay - 5,220 points Macy Callaghan - 5,220 points Tyler Wright - 2,090 points
  22. Three spots. If Canada and the USA both qualify by ranking the North American spot will be relocated to the repechage (probably because Mexico or Jamaica was literally one series point away from qualifying in 2016 and World Rugby didn't want that...). Still going to be a really harsh road for those teams if one of them don't overtake Australia.
  23. Updated ranking after four of six rounds: New Zealand 72 points Canada 66 points United States 64 points Australia 56 points France 46 points Republic of Ireland 38 points Great Britain 37 points Russia 34 points Spain 16 points Fiji 13 points China 10 points (The All-Ireland team is attempting to qualify on behalf of the Republic of Ireland and England is attempting to qualify on behalf of the UK). New Zealand, Canada and the United States are all but assured to qualify. In fact all three of then can clinch qualification simply by finishing ahead of (or close enough to) France in Langford. France has a slim chance to sneak in over Australia, maybe hosting the final event will help them.
  24. After finishing 11th (!) last year, has won the Japan 7s for their first title since the 2016-17 season! It was a very close 7-5 match with England, with Canada scoring their try more than two minutes into added time. The USA finished 3rd and France fourth. New Zealand was prevented from setting a record winning streak by a draw with Russia and their record unbeaten streak was ended by France in the group stage and the USA in the quarterfinals.
  25. So Basketball will now have three groups of four teams, with the top two teams in each group and the best two third placed teams making the quarterfinals. Great...
