  1. Lets not look into those rankings now. It still doesn't reflect true form as hardly any top tournaments were played during the ranking period. The only major tournaments played were Sudirman Cup, Indonesia Open (Super 1000), Japan Open (Super 750). A couple of key tournaments like China Open (Super 1000), Korea Open (Super 500) and Denmark Open (Super 750) coming in the next two months and the weightage of points is more. We will get a fair picture by December end when the 2019 season ends
  2. Qualification for Badminton is based on points earned between 29 Apr 2019 - 26 Apr 2020. The race to Tokyo rankings show this rankings, however except for World Championships there were many minor events where top players didn't participate and hence don't reflect who will actually qualify. The Notional Rankings are BWF World Rankings itself but with Olympic qualification restrictions applied like NOC with players of rank 1-16 can qualify 2 players only and the rest only 1 player for singles events BWF World Rankings are based on points earned in last 52 weeks and is updated every Tuesday
  3. Then they should do the same to China in Table Tennis and Fiji in Rugby Sevens. Just kidding BTW Hope we win another quota in Men's 10m Air Rifle so we can field two teams in Mixed Team
  4. http://www.fih.ch/events/olympic-games/olympic-games-tokyo-2020-m/news/fih-hockey-olympic-qualifiers-draw-live-on-9-september/ Hockey Olympic draw on Sep 9, a day after Oceania Cup. India will host both the qualifiers for both the formats. Also, it seems the men's team will be among top 3 seeds which will give them a weaker opponent which could be Pakistan, Austria or Egypt
  5. Seems like there's some in issue in Sanjeev Rajput's rifle. No scores after 38 shots
  6. If we know both Rahi and Manu can't win any additional quotas and already achieved MQS, then what are they doing in MQS event anyway which I believe has no element of pressure of competition. Atleast Apurvi, Anjum, Saurabh and Abhiskek Verma will experience that pressure
  7. Then why did both Anjum and Apurvi both competed yesterday. Even Saurabh Chaudhary and Abhishek Verma aren't there in MQS today only the young shooters Sarobjot Singh and Ravinder Singh are in MQS Is this a trial to give chance to other shooters and we would aim to get quota in Asian Championships. Can Manu Bhaker become double starter in 25m Pistol as she obviously would have achieved MQS
  8. Why are Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat participating in MQS and not in main event for 25m Pistol.
  9. Rowing World Championships results http://www.worldrowing.com/events/2019-world-rowing-championships/schedule
  10. India's realistic medal events are Badminton Women's Singles - The World Championships showed how ruthless PV Sindhu can be. The only player who can beat her is Tai Tzu Ying. If she gets a draw where she avoids Tai till the semis then a medal is assured Men's Javelin Throw - Depends on Neeraj Chopra's rehabilitation and recovery. The upcoming IAAF World Championships could be an indicator Boxing - 1 or 2 medals minimum. Mary Kom, Lovlina , Amit Phangal are genuine hopes Shooting - 3 to 5 medals. Saurabh Chaudhary in 10m AIr Pistol, Apurvi and Anjum in 10m Air Rifle, Manu Bhaker in 25m Pistol, Mixed team in both Pistol and Rifle Weightlifting - 1 medal, Mirabai Chanu in in Women 49kg Wresting - 2 to 3 medals, Bajrang Punia in M 65kg, Seema Tomar in W 50kg, Vinesh Phogat in W 53, More optimistic hopes Badminton Men's Singles - Barring Kento Momota, anyone can beat anyone on the day. Kidambi needs his form and confidence back Badminton Women's Singles - Saina Nehwal is still good enough and this probably will be her last Olymics Men's Field Hockey - The top 4 teams are too good. Need luck on the day So overall expecting in the range of 8-12 medals
  11. My Assessment on number of qualifications Archery - Deepika Kumari should qualify on her own but the women's team is too inconsistent Athletics - 25-30 Badminton - 2 in Men's Singles and Women's Singles, 1 pair each in Doubles Boxing - 5M + 3W Field Hockey - Both Men and Women should qualify Golf - 2M + 2W Judo - One continental quota awarded either to M or W Rowing - Men's Single Sculls and maybe Men's Lightweight Double Sculls Shooting - 1 more in 10m Air Rifle, 1 in Men's and Women's 25m Pistol, in addition to already earned 7 quotas Fencing - Bhavani Devi in Women's Sabre. Ena Arora or Jyotika Dutta can qualify in Women's Epee Equestrian - Fouaad Mirza Sailing - Nethra Kumanan in Women's Laser Radial Swimming - 1M + 1W as per Universality Quota. Table Tennis - Men's Team should qualify. Women's team is too weak but 2 quotas in Women's Singles Tennis - Men's Doubles Weightlifting - 1M + 2W Wrestling - 5M +3W Overall, expecting 115-125 athletes qualifying
  12. Great!!! iTTV, ITTF's streaming channel, doesn't work in India.
  13. Sai Praneeth wins his quarterfinal as well and India wins a medal for the first time in 36 years in men'singles after Prakash Padukone won in 1983. Will face Kento Momota in semis
  14. PV Sindhu beats her bogey and a previous 4-10 head-to-head record Tai Tzu Ying. She was destroyed in the first set by Tai's drops but the next 2 sets were close. Sindhu is assured of a medal. She will face winner of Chen yu Fei and Mia Blichfeldt
  15. Sai Praneeth defeats 6th seed Anthony Ginting to progress to Quarterfinals. Will face either Jonatan Christie or Jan Jorgensen. Another thing I have noticed for the first time we have different coaches for Men's and Women's Singles and Men's Doubles. Do we separate coaches for Women's and Mixed Doubles as well
  16. May I know how will these seeding help, will they avoid each other till the semis. As far as I know, the draw for wrestling tournaments is completely random
  17. With England not qualifying for the semis of Men's Euro Hockey Champaionship I guess, 5th rank is virtually India's. Now hoping for Belgium/Netherlands victory in the same tournament and Australia winning from Oceania which would help in India getting 1st-3rd seeds in Olympic qualifiers
  18. Pronnoy Kumar beats Lin Dan. Most likely to face Kento Momota in Round of 16
  19. Expecting one more quota in 10m Air Rifle Men, 1 in 25m pistol men and women, Trap men. The current lot is definitely better, especially the women. Have high expectations from Apurvi Chandela, Anjum Moudgil, Manu Bhaker and Rahi Sarnobat
  20. BWF World Championships, Basel Men' Singles - Round of 64 Srikanth Kidambi vs Nhat Nguyen (rank 81) Sameer Verma vs Kean Yew Loh (rank 34) Sai Praneeth vs Jason Anthony (rank 66) Pronnoy Kumar vs Eetu Heino (rank 93) All should move to Round of 32 Women's doubles Meghana Jakkampudi - Poorvisha Ram vs Guatemalan pair Should move to Round of 32
  21. Never knew Esow Alben was so good until I saw the junior rankings where he is no 1 and fellow compatriot Ronaldo in fourth. When can we expect them to competing in the top level in Senior. The top cyclists seem to be in mid 20s so is 2024 Olympics realistic target
  22. Zhang Nan, practically played with anyone and still won, both in men's doubles and mixed doubles. It is a setback that Satwik-Chirag won't play but they should qualify easily for Olympics. In an ideal scenario, need two pairs in mixed doubles to compete so they can challenge each other and raise their game for the Olympic qualification period. Only Satwik and Chirag are the best judges whether their bodies can handle the rigours of both men's doubles and mixed doubles
  23. Should we expect for any qualifications from Shotgun World Cup starting today
  24. His life has been hell and missed one of best phases of Indian table tennis - successes in Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Team Championships. Hope he returns as good as before and India can be a genuine force in Men's Team He currently is playing in Nigeria Open and has reached Round of 64 https://www.ittf.com/tournament/5022/2019/ittf-challenge-nigeria-open/
