pdr4332 reacted to OlympicIRL in Summer Olympic Games 2020 Medal Count
This is magical, look at the celebrations in Fiji after their gold medal. It’s exactly how I like to imagine every small nation celebrating a medal…

pdr4332 got a reaction from Braulio in Swimming at the Summer Olympic Games 2020
Apparently, Katinka Hosszu is receiving a lot of abuse in social media for her performance in the Olympics.
Both the guest commentator in TV (a former swimmer) and her team mates defended her in today's live broadcast.
Even V. Orban wrote the following comment to her FB post: "Once a champion, always a champion. Whoever had the national anthem played in their honor in the Olympics, forever remains a hero for us" (approximate translation)
This is one of the very rare instances when I agree with him completely!

YESSS Krisztián!!! There is our judo medal! I honestly had very little faith before this match, but he did. Great day for us.

These days it is wonderful to be a Slovenian, I am so proud. Thank you all, who appreciates efforts of our very own true champion.
Rogla for gold, still can not believe it.

The whole match ends when one of the teams reach 45. I think for the individual bouts its the first team to reach 5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40

It's also worth remembering that Biles has been through some serious trauma because of her career as a gymnast (being sexually assaulted as a child is no joke) and has been forced to deal with it very publicly.

Of course I am ecstatic for Flora Duffy and Bermuda winning a gold in triathlon of all sports. Science fiction.
But I am also angry at myself for:
A) oversleeping the race,
B) accidentally finding out about the outcome while scrolling through the Tokyo website.
Nevertheless, I watched it now, and the race was still fantastic.
Cheers for Flora Duffy!

pdr4332 reacted to thiago_simoes in Artistic Gymnastics at the Summer Olympic Games 2020
I've never seen her as the greatest of all time. When she goes to an edition of the Olympic Games and wins 6 medals -- all of the possible medals in women's competition -- like Silivas did in 1988, then she can say she's the greatest of all time. Will she manage to do it here? Let's see.
She's undeniably a very strong and talented gymnast. She has won countless world titles. She has pushed the difficulty way, way up, beyond what anyone could expect for now. But the greatest of all time? That's debatable.
This is mostly US media trying hard to make the rest of the world believe their athletes are the best.
However, I'm worried about her mental health. The pressure on her shoulders is monumental and this is not a sport where gymnasts should compete when they feel unsafe or unsure about themselves. She did the right thing withdrawing from team finals because she needs to keep safe above everything else. And she knows that nothing will change what she has achieved so far.

pdr4332 got a reaction from thiago_simoes in Totallympics 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics "Happiness Meter" - after Day 4
I voted 8 chiefly because of the epic gymnastics final held today. One of the most important days for coming up now. Lets see how my happiness meter will be after that...

pdr4332 reacted to Vektor in Women's Handball Tournament at the Summer Olympic Games 2020
I would say that only the women's team is suffering now, the men's team finally seem capable of some good results, too bad that they didn't figure their shit out in time for Olympic qualification. I am 100% sure that our men's team would perform better in Tokyo than our women's team.

I can't say that I haven't heard anything about Vas before this race, but I would have never guessed that this would actually happen. This is our best result in any cycling event since 1924 and it's from a 19-year-old girl.

pdr4332 reacted to thiago_simoes in Surfing at the Summer Olympic Games 2020
On the one hand, I loved skateboarding and it's one of the five Olympic sports I'll focus on watching from now on. On the other hand, surfing is very boring to watch with or without Brazilians competing. It takes too long, the moments where it gets exciting are too few and far between and, to be honest, it's not even really that exciting.
It's weird because this is a sport that belongs to the Summer Olympics, but I just can't force myself to watch it anymore. I'll just look for the results after the competition is over.

this is why I never care about social media and almost never use it. too many stupid kids out there.
and unlike what you guys may think this is not a serious thing for them. some kinds of trolling. most of comments are jokes. they try to beat each other in writing stupid jokes. it's just wasting time for them, nothing serious. even if Kubiak comes to Iran tomorrow most of these kids will line up taking photograph with him. this is not out of anger. this is just stupidity.
I think this "culture" started with Messi and 2014 World Cup draw. (while he is extremely popular here like every other place in the world) I remember when Dimitri Payet injured C. Ronaldo in Euro 2016 final, the same thing happened to his social media pages. and you can see both Payet and Ronaldo have nothing to do with Iran. some kids do this and invite their stupid friends to follow and like a snowball it gets bigger and bigger.
bottom line. don't take what's happening in social media seriously

street skateboarding must go only because they left Leticia out of the final...
how can man do something like that???
poor Leticia...
p.s. yes, I have her instagram page among my favourites on my PC...just above Camila Giorgi and Jutta Leerdam's...

I am 40 and have no problem with Olympic skateboarding either.
To the comment that skateboarding is sth that technology invented: skateboarding as an activity existed before even personal computers being widespread, AFAIK.
I have my personal gripes with social media (I think it has irreparably damaged society and political life) but this thing has nothing to do with it.
People were skateboarding way before Instagram, YouTube, Tiktok etc existed.

pdr4332 reacted to JoshMartini007 in Skateboarding at the Summer Olympic Games 2020
Skateboarding can stay, but it does need to revamp its format as I mentioned before.
I'm more upset with how the IOC tricked World Skate into submitting skateboarding. They basically strongly hinted that if they took over as the international federation for skateboarding then they may also accept speed roller skating as well and then they went nope and only accepted skateboarding.
Of course, that's not skateboarding's fault...

Listen, I'm 33, I definitely don't know what kids like these days, but I think it's more likely they're into something like this than, let's say, Modern Pentathlon.
Of course being from an "older" generation, I like all the traditional Olympic sports, but the inclusion of new ones doesn't bother me that much.
