  1. I think Soldier Hollow passed the weekend with flying colors. Great venue, great weather, really good races. Sure the crowd could be larger, but I think that it was a success. The Junior Worlds will be fun there in a few years.
  2. Sorry, I was reffing 6 HS soccer matches today, so I just finished watching the races. Good races to watch. Soldier Hollow is a great course, and most of it is within sight of the range. Last year I went to the US Championships, and right after Lowell Bailey, Tim Burke and Susan Dunklee finished their races, they posed for pictures with my 12 year old son who loves biathlon. Glad to hear the crowd was decent. Looking forward to the races tomorrow!
  3. Drive safe. The races and parking are free. Make your way over to the last hill for a great viewing of the course. As you can see on TV, there is not a grandstand, so anyplace is going to be standing.
  4. I agree that it was an interesting race. Dougherty had a decent race, 1 miss and 14th place. Weger continues his good season with an 8th place finish. Boe misses 4 targets and is only 40 sec behind! Great race by Roman Rees, 3rd place is great!
  5. Good point. It helps with development of the athlete to let the finish the race.
  6. I think that the Finnish Biathlon team needs a new travel agent: Mäkäräinen, who spent 42 hours getting from Canmore, via Toronto and Atlanta admitted the travel was tough, but once here was focused on the competitions. “I did not know where Toronto and Atlanta were; I had to look on Google Maps!"
  7. Men top 30 not racing: 3 - Martin Fourcade 6 - Arnd Peiffer 10 - Tarjei Boe 20 - Lars Birkeland 21 - Ondrej Moravec 22 - Sebastien Samuelsson 24 - Christian Gow 25 - Matvey Eliseev 26 - Dmytro Pidruchnyi 29 - Jakov Fak 30 - Artem Pryma
  8. How did Romania not get lapped? Austria also struggled on the range.
  9. Clair Egan goes 0+1 but does not have the ski speed, but finished as the top US skiier at 21s +1:34. Susan Dunklee entered the 2nd shooting in good position, but then missed 3 shots and finished in 45th +2:35. In total 14 shot clear for the day or just about 17%. The skiier who shot 0+0 but surprised me the most was Alexia Runggaldier of Italy. She finished in 36th. It will be hard for the Italians to win the relay championship if she does not ski faster. Gontier had three misses and finished only 9 seconds slower.
  10. Women top 30 not racing #5 Fialkova #7 Kryuko #8 Oeberg #15 Dahlmeier #18 Starykh #19 Brorsson #22 Yurlova-Percht So 23 of the top 30 will be racing.
  11. Terrible location, too cold, too small, unkind governmental officials, no fans, change of schedule, jet-lag, why them and not in Russia, etc. There have be a few Russians Biathlon officials who have gone on record of being quite upset, and the fans have been very mad. Part is I think they are hoping on the male side that Loganov can stay in 2nd place, and with the race cancelled, that was a chance to further the gap between him and Fourcade.
  12. From Susan Dunklee leaving Calgary Airport for SLC, am not sure how to post an Instagram post. https://www.instagram.com/p/BtwARLBBvH7/
  13. Lots of snow for the Biathlon events. Boys 12.5k Individual 1st place - Hans Koellner - 0+0+1+0 - Really nice shooting 2nd place - Benjamin Erik Menz - - 1+0+0+0 - +1:11.8 - Good shooting as well 3rd place - Stepan Kinash - - 0+1+0+0+0 +1:29 These were the only three to miss a shot. My chosen favorite from did not do so well and missed 14 shots.
  14. I was at the US Championships last year in Soldier Hollow. Pretty fun event. This picture gives a good indication for the range and penalty loop. It is a little funky. I am sure the Russian media and fans, who have not stopped about the horrors of Canmore will only have terrible things to say about another North American venue. If you look in the middle of the picture, there is a little rise with flags on it, that is the entry to the range/finish area. There is a very sharp right hand turn into the range, with the exit to the range coming back towards the right of the picture. The entrance to the penalty loop is just off the range, so there will be some traffic in that congested area. Elevation, plus some decent climbs will make for some good races.
  15. I know the field will include a lot of lesser known people, but I am looking forward to this weekend.
  16. Thank you. It gives us at least some visual for the range, course etc. Not sure if the IBU Cup would ever go the, but it looks like plenty of snow , decent hills and the range looks nice. I like the We are the Champions. Eric Perrot already speaks well in English. Lovoro Planko speaks really good English.
  17. No highlights yet, but this is the promotional video I found on
  18. Girls Biathlon Sprint 1st - Hanna Boerve - Norway 2nd - Lea Meier - Switzerland +12.1 3rd - Anna Gandler - Austria +33.4 The Swiss seem to be doing quite well in cross country skiing and biathlon.
  19. Boys Biathlon Sprint results are up: 1st - Eric Perrot - France 2nd Lovro Planko - Slovenia +9.2 3rd Ilia Anisimov - Russia +19.9
  20. Moldova could be good. Maybe the those in Astana as well?
  21. If anyone wondered why the start times are what they are are, this article explains it pretty well. "The German TV dictates the time of our races so that it hits prime time in the evening"
  22. Not sure if the IBU data center will work this time. It has the first seven started an no one else for quite some time now. At least there is a start list.
  23. Biathlon competitor Ekaterina Avvakumova (29), originally from Russia, could not adapt to life in Korea and is reportedly looking for another national team to join. Looks like life post Olympic games has not worked out so well.
