  1. Somewhat related, interesting article about how the US hopes to become a leader in biathlon, and also how little they spend. 2.3 million on the sport. I wish the article had a little more about the interview. I would have really enjoyed that.
  2. Single Mixed Relay looks to have been a good one. 1. 0 + 10 - One of 8 teams who did not have a penalty loop. Best shooting was who went 0 + 6 but without enough ski speed finished in 12th. Top 10 teams were all within 1:15 of the Russians. 2. Close to the lead, or leading the entire way, both Stalder and Baserga shot well. Baserga did end up with 1 + 6, the penalty loop made the difference. + 6.9 3. 0 + 7 + 22. Worst shooting performance was close between the Serbs 11+21 and the Bosnian team 15+23. Despite shooting worse, the Bosnian team finished almost 4 min faster. Next up Mixed Relay in a few hours.
  3. Realistic expectations for US. Individual races, not just the 20k/15k a top 15 would be awesome. In the team events, a top ten would be great.
  4. Junior Men Individual done 1 - Tim Grotian Perfect shooting! 2.- Vebjoern Soerum +23.4 One miss Would have been very close. 3 - Alex Cisar + 54.3 Perfect shooting Josefsen of Greenland missed 18 shots! One two shot perfect. Junior Women Individual done 1 - Camille Bened Perfect shooting 2 - Amanda Lundstroem Perfect shooting +5.5 3 - Franziska Pfneur Missed one +29.7 Remenova of Slovakia missed 11 shots. Three shot perfect. Best US female athlete was Chloe Levins in 19th with +3:16 and 2 misses. Garrett Beckrich was 21 at 4:03 with 3 misses. These two will be in the Single Mixed Relay tomorrow.
  5. All Mixed Relay start lists are now up on the IBU Datacenter. France has - Chevalier/Simon/Desthieux/Fourcade Germnay has - Hinz/Dahlmeier/Peiffer/Doll Norway has - Roeiseland/Eckhoff/Boe/Christiansen Italy has - Vittozzi/Wierer/Hofer/Windish Those are some really strong teams!
  6. It is a new thing! Only for the most elite athletes. Good catch, I have fixed it.
  7. His form could see him win a medal in every event. What is the largest number a points a Crystal Globe has been won by?
  8. Junior Boys Sprint is over. Congrats to Grotian of with the win. He missed 1 shot on his way to victory. Local youth Aolaid shot clean, but was 7 sec outside 6th place. Yesterday winner Cisar missed two shots in the stand and ended up in 12th place. De Santana shot well again, only missed twice. I wish I could say the same for the US skiers. Jugvic of Bosnia missed 9 shots, and only 3 shot clean, Aolaid, Kocain (15th) and Secu (87th!)
  9. Women's Sprint is over Congrats to Chole Chevalier. She did not qualify for the Super Sprint Final yesterday and rebounded by winning. She was one of 5 who shot clear. Other racers of note, M Eder of made her return and finished in 39th 2+1. There were 5 who missed 6 targets, two Estonians and two from the USA.
  10. On the Women's side, congrats to Weidel who was one of three who shot clean and won by over 30sec. On the Men's side, congrats to Stroemsheim who despite two misses still won. No male shot clean. Lang had missed 10 shots before he was lapped.
  11. I wonder who is playing on the US hockey teams. The NCAA seasons are still in full swing.
  12. So much for seeing how Levins did, she DNS. Mishkin from with only 1 miss! Greenland's finest was doing well, but after the 2nd shoot, where she only had 1 miss, she pulled a DNF. I wonder what happened? Congrats to Lundstroem who won with a clean shoot. Only 5 shot clean with Smerciakova missing 8.
  13. Men's Qualfiers: Norway get 3 with Gjesbaak not qualfying. Russia get 5 with Babikov and Korastylev Germany get 3 with Fratzscher in. Bourgois Republic finishes in 4th for France. Tang from China did well, a Finn, a Latvian and Estonian all qualified.
  14. I am looking forward to seeing how Chloe Levins from the US does over the next two weeks. She is the next big thing for US women's biathlon. No remember that it is all relative
  15. Women's Supersprint Qualifiers: Norway gets 4 Russia gets 4 (With Slivko qualifying in 22nd place) Germany gets 3 ( wit Horchler and Hettich not qualifying) Sweden gets 4 Estonia continues their fine women's season by having two qualify, and Kelsey Dickinson shoots clean for the first time in her career for 9th place in the Prelims.
  16. So there is a maximum cap on the IBU Cup per nation (to prevent the race being all Norway, Russia and Germany), but not a minimum. So in my example, all the Mexican Biathlon Federation would need to do is contact the IBU and let them know that they had an athlete who they wanted to compete in the trimester. What if they had 5 and had the money to do so, would they be allowed all 5? I agree that the FIS system is very confusing, but it did allow for Tonga to have a rep in the last Olympics.
  17. Junior Boys Sprint is over Cisar won shooting clean. Viukhin missed 4 targets and was only 23.1 seconds behind. That is so really fast skiing. The US had all 4 in the top 60, not bad, and Cervenka shot clean and finished 10th. 6 shot clean. Tie for worst shooting goes to Josefsen of Greenland and Sytnyk of Ukraine, they both missed 8. De Santana of Brazil only had one miss! Mikoliunas from Lithuania shot clean. Both lacked the ski speed, but congrats to them.
  18. So no points at all from domestic/regional competitions? So if a Mexican biathlete only competed in the North American events, there would be no way for them to get a slot? How then does a country get a slot, if you have to race in a specific race to get points, but to race in a specific race, you need to have points?
  19. I was wondering the same thing. Maybe this is from Wikileaks ! The first biathlon themed dump! To be a little more serious, I would love to see this, as well as the points list, races where points are available, how many, etc.
  20. As I have thought about this again, since you are only giving points for the top 20 spots, something more like this 1 from 1-10 3 from 11-30 1 from 31-60
  21. You could add in points for maintaining team position in the relay or bettering it or losing it. 10 points if team in same position as when started leg 10 points + 3 points per spot the team has advanced in the standing during their leg No points if team drops in the standings during their leg. This would punish the top team, but it would make the 18th place team a little more interesting to watch.
  22. I am in. Another thought would be something like this. 1 from 1-10 2 from 11-30 2 from 31-60 If you really want to make it interesting, take JT Boe and Fourcade out of contention.
  23. Margarita Vasilyeva will most likely face a ban due to not being available for a drug test.
  24. Team USA The women - Dreissgacker is there for the relay. The US has 3 starting spots in the Individual and Sprint Susan Dunklee (Barton, Vt.) Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) Joanne Reid (Palo Alto, Calif.) Emily Dreissigacker (Morrisville, Vt.). The men - The US men have starting sport, it will be interesting to see what races Alex Howe runs. Sean Doherty (Center Conway, N.H.) Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minn.) Jake Brown (Saint Paul, Minn.) Max Durtschi (Ketchum, Idaho) - Best mustache on the tour! Alex Howe (Gilford, N.H.).
  25. Oops, how did I miss him? That was a glaring omission.
