  1. Don't forget Canada... 2 time defending Pan American Games champion in what will likely be similar team compositions for these qualifying events.
  2. All countries had their quotas slashed for the event, only 80% of the last 3 events averaged can be sent by each country (in the individual events). So strict countries like South Africa this meant reducing their already strict set teams. This has left a ridiculous level of competition, for ex. Malaysia and South Africa have the same team size in athletics. Any athlete from Malaysia would probably struggle to make South Africa's team for ex. India and Canada have the same almost (31 v 35), and majority of Indian athletes wouldn't even qualify for Canada's team. Looking at the wrestling entries, there are only 5 in a lot of the women's categories and other events too have a small number of entries. So note to the CGF: Instead of reducing the county's allocation, make a qualification system for each sport that allows a good number of entrants, like they did with weightlifting.
  3. won both the men's and women's junior worlds, nice way to redeem the curling in this country after the disaster in PyeongChang.
  4. 5) 2010 Winter Olympics: Alex Bilodeau winning Canada's first ever Olympic gold medal on home soil, after failing to win any in 1976 and 1988. 4) 1972 Summit Series - Game 8, defeating the Soviet Union 3) Donovan Bailey wins the 100m gold medal in Atlanta 1996, breaking the World Record in the process. 2) Women's hockey gold in 2002. The officiating was horrible (against the Canadians) and the Americans had the Canadian flag on the floor of their dressing room. The Canadians took the last laugh though by winning the gold and starting a streak of four straight gold medals! 1) Olympic hockey gold in 2010 for the men, breaking the record for the most gold medals by a country at a single Winter Olympics.
  5. IKR, but if the IOC allows them in, it opens up the possibility of a lot more wanting in, which would water down the Summer Olympics more
  6. Unfortunately, Canada4thewin has not been online since Feb 27, so I have gone ahead and chosen a song: CANADA "Passionfruit" Drake
  7. qualified in girls' beach volleyball and qualified in boys'
  8. Have heard (though just a proposal at the moment), that some countries are pushing for a min. 2 quotas (per event) to be allowed from Americas/Africa/Asia....
  9. http://www.biggestglobalsports.com/ What does everyone think??
  10. Not necessarily true. I am sure the IOC will welcome Turin lol
  11. They dropped slalom because when it was originally added it was a one time deal for Russia.
  12. Where do I start with this one I have been fascinated with the Olympics since 2002!! (I was 9 years old at the time). Back then our middle school had video announcements, so during the 2002 Winter Olympics we would record the results of the Olympics and then this would be played throughout the school. At the time I was a young person who really did not understand the magnitude of the Olympic games.Ever since then I have watched every Olympics (religiously, at hours only dedicated fans like us would wake up to do so) till 2016. Around the Rio Olympics I applied to be a volunteer at the 2018 Winter Olympics and I was officially accepted as one in early 2017. These would be the first Olympics I got to see in person! As a volunteer my accommodation was located in Sokcho, which was in the northeast part of the country. The only problem I noticed with the operations was the lack of English speaking and transportation could have been better. However, with pretty much everything being covered for you, this was a great experience! Perhaps a Totallympics team can be in Tokyo and onward as volunteers I was able to see the following events: -Mixed doubles curling gold medal match (free volunteer ticket) -Canada vs USA Women's hockey preliminary match -Canada vs Korea Men's hockey preliminary match -Short track speed skating sessions on the 17th and 20th - thank you to a friend at the ISU for those tickets! I also went to Beijing and Tokyo, so I got to see the next 2 host cities as well Great of Wall of China Seoraksan National Park, Republic of Korea
  13. They will reject. Canada has already selected men's field hockey and women's rugby
  14. Last I checked I had no control over why these cities withdrew
  15. Just returned back home today. What an incredible experience and I encourage everyone remotely interested in the Olympics to attend one in person!
  16. Yea I agree with basketball. Its much tougher now to qualify. Also missing out in handball seems impossible on paper, but it always comes down to a one game playoff (most likely against Argentina, who might pull off the upset). Colombia is investing a lot into their women's rugby team and they might pull of the upset.
