  1. Dissapointing indeed... If I'm not mistaken, Guadalajara had the results site running 2 or 3 days before the openning ceremony. Of course those were also the dates when they certified the athletics stadium
  2. Probably, but still your competitors have become a referent in this sport.
  3. I think one of our Kumite guys will double as part of our Kata team.
  4. Not sure... I think it could be in cycling or karate. Those are the sports which I noticed are using less athletes than those qualified.
  5. Also Mexico with two withdrawals, one of them Juan Luis Barrios in men's 10,000m where he had a chance to add another medal to his count Official number for Mexico is 541.
  6. If I read correctly, the winner of the continental competitions will only gain a quota if they're not already qualified in that event. In case they are, that quota gets transfered to the World Cup.
  7. Finally, the official site is starting to show the competition schedule... hopefully by next Monday/Tuesday it will have more info
  8. Tragedy for Mexico only 3 quotas... it will be an uphill battle to qualify in the other events... no chance for the women at the Pan Am Games and only 50/50 with our current men divers
  9. And our best junior fencer (Botello) beat our former best fencer (Pliego), now competing for Uzbekistan, to advance to the main round. Mixed feelings Again, none of our men could go to the final round
  10. After the prelims I think the following divers will get the quotas for Tokyo: CAO; XIE; LAUGHER; HAUSDING; DINGLEY; WOO; PACHECO; KUZNETSOV; SHLEIKHER; KOLODIY BOUDIA; HIXON; Dark Horses: CARTER & IMBEAU-DULAC
  11. Yes he has a good future if he gets support from your federation. I really wanted him and Poland's Lesiak to go into semis, but qualifying in men's diving is always cutthroat.
  12. And once again, a competitor has to restart his dive. This time it was Nez Zealand's Anton Down Jenkins. Unlike the Brit, he was able to perform a regular dive and thus his deductions seemed less severe.
  13. Time for a rendition of the following:
  14. Poor James Heatly... he almost fell of the springboard and had to restart his dive, meaning a 2.0 deduction from each judge score. He then failed the dive horribly, and earned marks no higher than 2.5, with his best three adding 0.5 once deductions were applied Sadly he is 95% out of the semis
  15. Another great result for our women in foil, with one of them advancing directly to the main 64, and another two joining her. Our men in epee, were just decent, but I'd have wanted at least one of them to advance further.
  16. Disaster for Gabriela Agundez S complete exhibition of poor attitude and lack of good skills. I wonder why do Mexican judges pick her over other divers. Only the last dive was an acceptable one, but at that point it was too late. Alejandra Orozco was close to repeat that disaster with that mediocre last dive, but she managed to qualify for the semifinal, where she will likely be eliminated. That level where she managed to be on par with Espinosa and earn silver are long gone. Hope Estrella & Del Angel beat them next year in the World Cup selective process. Now, the divers I expect to get the 12 quotas: WU; BENFEITO; McKAY; CHEN; LU; TOULSON; KURJO; BATKI; KANETO; PAMG; MAGANA; SCHNELL Dark Horses: WASSEN & van DUIJN
  17. Not that I'm aware off, sorry. Only to the results
  18. Thank you... as with the men in this event, it wasn't a medal I expected as this has been our worst event since 2012. They were regular enough to earn that medal, even when the judges tried to award the Russians enough points in their last dive. Curious fact is that Paola Espinosa earned her first World Championships in this same event, with former partner Laura Sanchez, back in 2003.
  19. Glad at least Mexican fencers advanced from the pool round into the preliminary tableau. Even happier one of our women competitors in epee made it to the main competition.
  20. Sorry for the delay... here are my picks for the last Olympic quotas in synchro diving. Women's 3m Synchro Secure: Favorites to qualify: Could Upset: Men's 10m Synchro Secure: (cause any team Daley is guaranteed a prize by the judges) Big chance: Could Upset:
  21. Oh I'm not against parkour as an activity or even it's inclusion in the program one day (I'm concerned about the lack of understanding of what trespassing is, but that's a pure legal matter) but FIG's parkour is a joke.
  22. He really fought for it and totally deserved it, after the big snub he received for the Pan Am Games... still I think that 4th round went a little high on the score, but if it wasn't for that his initial 2.3 dive (which he should upgrade) and the last dive, he could have won it. So sad Tocci had a bad day, but he's one to watch in this and next Olympic cycle(s).
  23. They sure did, yet there's another qualifying event ahead and I can't see them missing on that opportunity... no other team (except North Korea) are really on their level.
  24. I agree that nobody wants to see less events in men's artistic, but if already men and women get the same quota allocation, they could add a couple of new events in women's artistic program; but I think the next move will be to include that ridiculous parkour event FIG is promoting.
  25. Exactly... as with rhythmic gymnastics, this goes against "gender-equality", that in today's "progresive, inclusive" policies seems more an attempt to be correct than to actually better the quality, field and public & economic support the women competitors deserve. In other words: less sexism and harrasment, equity in broadcast and better economic incentives & prizes Once it goes well developed, and other gender taboos are surpassed, it will be interesting to see the mix competition in this, along with a more fair, credible score system, where everyone has a chance and not the already fixed positions that only change a little every 4 years or so.
