  1. As always it's a bit of a puzzle who celebrates Christmas on which days (or not at all) on such a diverse online place as Totallympics, but I'm pretty sure nobody celebrates it on 23 December already. Considering it's Friday and for a large portion of people this is probably the last working day before the holidays, it seems like as good a moment as ever to wish everyone Merry Christmas! Whether you celebrate only 24 December at night, only 25 December, 25 and 26 December or any other random combination...have a good time everyone!

  2. Another stat. Only 12 of 172 goals were scored from outside the penalty box (7%). That's a major decline compared to Euro 2020 (19/142 goals, 13%). The far left red dot is the Bruno Fernandes cross that wasn't even a shot to begin with Moreover only 24% of goals were scored from set pieces (PK, free kick, corner) compared to 44% of those goals being scored in 2018 World Cup.

  3. I have good memories of Pan Ams in Toronto in 2015. I won tickets in a sponsor giveaway to see the equestrian eventing final- I had to look up what eventing was but we had a great time there. Looking forward to world swimming, track, and beach volleyball championships as well as basketball World Cup and all Paris qualifiers.

  4. not gonna happen...I'm (relatively) sure Pizzolato isn't to be caught with his Tokyo samples (not going to bet on him overall, as you wrote, with weightlifters you never know). Italy has recorded only 1 single positive test among their medallists in all the Olympic history (the poor Rebellin in 2008)...we have a pretty good organization to avoid any embarassment on the big stage (while the rest of the 4-year span is just another thing, unfortunately).

    Sport Estivi 2022

  8. It will be fun to have the Olympic qualifiers in full swing next year. Also, another packed year for multi-sports games, with many of my personal favorites on offer (Pan American Games, European Games, Asian Games, Winter Universaide, Pacific Games, Jeux Francophonie, World Beach Games, CAC Games, etc.)

  9. -The tennis season in general. It's great to have two top players from your country, and also we have several young Greek women moving up the rankings so hopefully they continue to do so. And of course to watch players from other countries as well. -FIBA World Cup and Eurobasket Women. I hope our national teams do well. -Euro 2024 qualifying. Greece is in a tough group with France and the Netherlands, but I am curious to see how we will do and also we are guaranteed a spot in the play-offs via Nations League so there is less pressure. -Athletics outdoor season. Mainly the World Championships but also last year we had the National Championships in Thessaloniki and it was a very nice experience, I hope to be able to go in 2023 as well. -World Championships again for water polo. -Rowing season. From May to September there are a lot of regattas and it is always nice to see Greece win a lot of medals, I think this year we won 12 gold medals as well as other silver and bronze. -Hopefully many Olympic quotas for Greece in various different sports.

  14. right now, the whole Winter Sports season, culminating in the World Champs. and also the great finale of the American Football season, with the NCAA Bowls and Nat'l Champ game and the NFL playoffs through to the Superbowl in early February. in March, Baseball is back! first, the World Baseball Classic, then in late March/early April, the start of the new season of MLB, NPB and KBO. April also means playoffs Hockey (NHL, but also all around Europe), as May means the Hockey World Champs. in Summer & early Autumn, there will be a lot of World Champs in many Olympic sports (Athletics, Acquatics, Fencing, Judo my favourites, but also many, many more). September means that a new Hockey season is back. October means playoffs Baseball (MLB, NPB, KBO). and then the cycle starts again with a whole new season of Wintersports, while the c(o)untdown for Paris 2024 runs quickly with the various sports' qualifications.

  17. @catgamer Fun fact: the German song from this years contest is part of the annual Top 2000 made in the Netherlands (a Christmas tradition in NL, people vote on a bunch of songs and the Top 2000 are played from 2000 to 1 since 25 December until midnight of 31st December in the radio). It got placed at 237 position (in 2000), so not bad! P.S - The number one this year (as it is almost every year) was Bohemian Rapsodhy. Here’s the first 10 from this year’s contest:

  18. As usual my biggest focus is going to be for the surprise of nobody on Ice Hockey. The whole season IIHF WCH program, I just love to follow all the different tournaments in all categories, international tournaments, different national championships, NHL and all this marathon will again lead to the Seniors Top Division World Championships in May. and what concern the rest of sports, there Plenty of things, hard to select only some, basically excited about following the whole Paris 2024 Qualifiers cycle, mainly the Wrestling world champs and Paris qualifying tournaments are going to be strongly followed here this time just like the Canoe Slalom worlds and eventual internal olympic qualifiers. Among the interantional major sport events, certainly the Athletics worlds at our southern and the European Games at our northern neighbors are my most awaited events for next summer, plus obviously the Tour de France one of my most beloved tradition. but to start the year it is almost all about the winter sports season. all winter sports world cup races, and upcoming world championships in February and March.

    Judo IJF World Tour 2022

so, the last and 2nd most important tournament of the year is in the books... despite sending a second (if not third) tier team, Japan won the final medal table with 3 Gold , 2 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. France were also very strong, finishing second in the medal table with 2 Gold, 6 Silver and 2 Bronze medals, followed by Georgia, also winning 2 Gold medals, but adding to that only 1 Bronze. 7 more Nations won a single Gold medal ( and ), meanwhile the total number of Countries enjoying at least a medal is up to 22 (in just 14 events), making Judo one of the most widely spread sports in the World when it comes to high level performance. Here's the Full Results Recap https://www.ijf.org/competition/2316/results and here's the Full Medal Table https://www.ijf.org/competition/2316/standings

    Totallympics Awards 2022

if I remember well, the boxers must have a limited number of pro fights under their belt to enter the Olympic pathway. I'm sure it was between 10 and 15 max (with no title fights) when they opened to the pros in 2016, but tbh I don't know if the limitation is still in place or it's been removed.

  30. Hello, everybody! I thought that maybe it was a good idea to bring back the Totallympics Awards. For those who don't remember (or weren't here), these awards were presented in 2014 and 2015 in the old forum and celebrate the best of the year in sports. As I don't have those records, the 2022 edition can now be considered the first? Anyway, I hope many of you have interest in participate (I will be adding the voters names in the second post). It's allowed to campaign in this thread for your favourites. Suggestions are always welcome especially in "tricky" categories like Breakthrough, Youth Athlete, Sport Moment of the Year, and the Olympic Spirit award.

  31. Hi, Totallympics' members! Welcome to the Totallympics Awards, a celebration of the year in sports. We invite you to take part in the voting process that will elect the best in sports from 2022 in multiple categories – including the two big prizes for Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete. Which better place than Totallympics, the Home of Olympic Sports, to recognize your favorites athletes and teams? For the returning edition of the award, we hope to count with voters from as many nations as possible. If you want to participate, please follow the instructions in the third post of this thread. You are allowed to make comments and suggestions of your personal preferences in this thread. Below, we explain the categories and voting process in details. Categories Best Male Athlete Best Female Athlete Best Non-Olympic Athlete Best Paralympic Athlete Best Youth Athlete Best Men's Team Best Women's Team Best Doubles or Pair Breakthrough of the Year Sport Moment of the Year Olympic Spirit Award Special Awards Totallympics' Stars Award Lifetime Achievement Award The Totallympics Awards will consist of 11 categories (each with 6 nominees) and two special awards. The top categories are Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete, in which voters will recognize the best athletes of the year in Olympic sports only (Summer or Winter). Such restriction applies only to these categories. Athletes that participate in sports outside of the Olympic Games will be up for the Non-Olympic Athlete award – a category that will combine male and female athletes, as well for all other individual categories. The Paralympic Athlete award will acknowledge the outstanding names that highlighted the Paralympic movement in 2022. The Breakthrough of the Year is a category for the most improved athlete/team of the year, while younger athletes will be up for Best Youth Athlete, a category for the talents up to 18 years old – to be eligible, an athlete must have been born after 1 January 2004. Although athletes of Team sports can be nominated for all the individual awards, they will also be in the running for two other categories: Best Men's Team and Best Women's Team. As the name suggests, national teams or groups (of three people or more) can be nominated in these categories, in both Olympic and Non-Olympic sports, Paralympic sports included. Sportspeople competing in 2-athlete events will be up for the Best Doubles or Pair award. The Sport Moment of the Year award will bring the moments that thrilled sports fans in 2022, while the Olympic Spirit Award is a category for people related to the 2022 Winter Olympics or Paralympics and will be given to the individuals who exemplify the spirit of sportsmanship in the Games or showed great determination in overcoming obstacles. As for the special categories, the Totallympics' Stars award will celebrate the forum members, while the Lifetime Achievement will recognize retired sport personalities that have made a contribution to sports world. Both awards won't have a list of nominees, only winners. Voting System FIRST STAGE OF VOTING The first stage of voting will happen from Thursday, December 22nd to Friday, December 30th. Voters will choose, in order of preference, a minimum of 3 athletes or teams and a maximum of 6 for each category in which they decide to vote – with the exception of Best Male Athlete and Best Female Athlete, voters can decide if they will vote in other categories or not. In this stage, voters are allowed to choose athletes/teams from their own nation, however, out of the 6 possible choices, voters are only allowed to vote for 1 athlete or team of their own nation per category. In each category, votes (in order of preference) will be converted into points, following the system explained below: After the points are counted, the top 6 with most points in each category will advance for the second stage. A tiebreaker will be used when there's a tie in points for the 6th spot, prevailing the number of votes each one received, and then the number of #1 votes. If the tie persists, a random draw will be conducted to determine the final nominee. The nominees list for the Totallympics Awards will be announced Sunday, January 1st, 2023. SECOND STAGE OF VOTING The second stage of voting will happen from Sunday, January 1st to Friday, January 6th. Voters will rank a maximum of 3 favourite nominees in each category, but they also can make a single choice per category. As in the first stage, votes will be converted into points, but this time around a little bit differently, as seen below: After the voting process is over, the nominees with most points in each category will become winners of 2022 Totallympics Awards. Like in first stage, a tiebreaker will be necessary when two or more nominees have the same number of points, prevailing the number of votes, and then the number of #1 votes. If the tie persists, results of first stage will be considered. Along with the Totallympics' Stars and the Lifetime Achievement awards, they will be announced in a live ceremony Sunday, January 8th, which will bring together Totallympics' users in a celebration of the year in sports.
