  2. I wasn't entirely sure, because she is taking it event after event, not committing to everything. She had multiple interviews saying that she hasn't decided if she's taking part and that's why the journalists asked her yesterday to confirm. There was also a good chance she was not participating if Russia was at the Olympics, since she is a huge activist for Ukraine and had a viral video of her swimming in "blood" where they dyed a lake red for a day. I believe she is attending Doha though, that's why she skipped the short-course Euros.

  11. James Guy has said all along he won't go but it's a shame Peters didn't take up the offer so they can field a men's medley relay. Will be most interesting to see if Peaty is moving towards his best form again.

  13. Albert with a fantastic 4th place after the first run, but in Madonna this doesn't mean much, since the gaps are so small. There is going to be some drama. I love skiing at night

  15. Cross-posting this from the biathlon thread. Watching biathlon from Belarus today & would you believe that this was the only time since the Chur Big Air in October that I have seen any winter sport on a brownfield track? It’s incredible really, everywhere has snow! Not just artificial or stored snow, but actual snow! I go back over 20 years where we had three consecutive pre-Xmas biathlon races in Pokljuka because none of the other tracks had anything!

yeah, you're right...she might not have been a perfect fit in that category, so I changed my choice (I don't know how I could leave Pieterse out of my initial list ) to me, Katzberg is still in the category of the one-hit wonders rather in the established, consistent newcomers in the elite of the discipline actually, if there was a category named "upset/surprise of the Year", he'd be very high in that ranking

I meant Karoline, of course I don't know how I came up with the name Guri...most likely, I was "under influence" you know, this almost Holiday period, you always have to see people you normally don't see very often, friends, relatives...there's always a chance to party

  26. Gran Torino (the e-racing inspired movie) recently came out on Netflix in the US. Race (the Jesse Owens film) is on Netflix (at least in the US). Rush (Nikki Lauda story) is available too. Unbroken is also on Netflix (in the US) at the moment. The Grizzlies (it's about lacrosse in a remote village) is another option. The Redeem Team (2008 USA basketball team documentary) is also available. Field of Dreams (baseball themed drama) is also on there. The Swimmers (Mardini bio-pic) was good enough in my opinion. It's another option.

  33. First stage voting should end tomorrow but we only have 5 voters so far. We may have to change the schedule and give it another week, announcing the nominees closer to New Year's rather than Christmas (just like last year). Or maybe even cancel the whole thing if the number of voters is too low. I tagged last year's voters in case anyone is interested. Of course there's a lot more people who can vote (didn't wanna bother more members tagging them here), so please feel free to follow the instructions in this post

  39. Still something needs to be done about the whole equipment saga. Whether that's neutral wax, very strongly limiting the number of skis, whatever. It is absolutely batshit crazy that most of the big-country athletes have 40 or even 50 pairs of skis with them. Limit it to a maximum of say 4-5 pairs of skis per athlete per World Cup round, that is really, without a doubt more than enough. Add something like a neutral wax provider to that, with a limit number of waxes one can use. It takes out at least some of the insane advantage the big teams have with their research budgets, while still including the actual skills of the waxers in applying them correctly and choosing correctly (from the limited number of options that are available to everyone).
    1 point
  40. They already did that a while ago, including checks. Or at least they prepared it and started with the checks. Which in at least one occassion led to a bottle of fluor being found in the Brazilian wax cabine at an IBU Cup
