we had 86 quotas available for male players

48 for teams + 22 continental events + 1 wild card + 4 World Qualifiers = 75

11 quotas are left for mixed double players + ranking.

Cuba and Canada already used two of those quotas (since they are using players who didn't qualify in singles)

which means maximum 9 will qualify through ranking. but we still don't know 7 of qualified teams in mixed doubles, so it will be minimum 2 and maximum 9 players through the ranking. depends on those 7 remaining mixed doubles teams.

at the moment only :GBR Pitchford and :NGR Aruna are 100% guaranteed a place in Tokyo

Players qualified in mixed doubles have a sure spot in singles, too? Or can you explain more your explanation of minimum 2 and maximum 9 players?

No, mixed doubles players don't automatically compete in the singles.

For every mixed doubles athlete not qualified in singles a reduction of the world rankings quota occurs because we can only have a maximum of 86 men and 86 women in table tennis.

Slovakian XD pair will not qualify in singles I think.

Also Austria (men).

So, by my reckoning (and provided North Korea really withdraws), there shall be 6 spots for men, and 10 for women awarded via rankings.

Men

:GBR Pitchford

:NGR Aruna

:AUT Gardos

:BLR Samsonov

:AUT Habesohn

:KAZ Gerassimenko

Women

:UKR Pesotska

:CZE Matelova

:POR Shao

:UKR Gaponova

:ITA Vivarelli

:LUX De Nutte

:ESP Dvorak

:SUI Moret

:GBR Ho

:SRB Lupulesku

Wouldn't the French quotas (assuming North Korea withdraws) be reallocated to the European qualifier?

That would mean 9 quotas will be available for the women's ranking (Balazova would be qualified in the singles)

what 7 countries you have to qualify in the XD ? :AUS + top 5+1 in the ranking (:KOR:SVK:AUT:FRA:ROU:HUN ??)

in that case, that will open up 4 more quotas for the ranking (AUS/KOR/FRA/ROU) and yes there will be 6 to qualify

btw Samsonov didn't participate in the world qualifier and also the European qualifier. I wonder if the grandpa is OK. maybe they just wanted to give 2 chances to other Belorussian players, (as they knew Samsonov will qualify via ranking)

Our federation (if they are not wrong) claims "Barbi" Balážová will qualify from the ranking and not by EQT reallocation :dunno: Pištej is out in Singles but will made it with Barbora in the doubles, btw Also they claims the MD quotas should be officialized by early May ranking, would this means the final MD qualifier is cancelled ?

Yes, this would give Slovakia and Bulgaria reallocations.

There should be 11 spots via rankings, since all female players in doubles will also take part in singles. Technically, there are 59 fixed spots + whatever is left from the mixed doubles (up to 70).

    • There is a saying to never trust a Russian in gymnastics. Well, ex-Russian turned Bulgarian Elvira Krasnobaeva is transferring now to Armenia.   The "official" reason is for personal, family matters, but in reality it's most likely because she wasn't selected for Paris, which angered her parents. Even though she is only 16, had her breakthrough just this year and started making mistakes, when they amped up the difficulty.   Our Federation's President Iliana Raeva said today, that she received calls also from France and Azerbaijan about Elvira's mother basically auctioning her. Raeva mentioned, that Krasnobaeva was going to be a vocal point in the next Olympic cycle, but now she can hit the road and missed her chance to ever compete for Bulgaria, even if she wanted to in the future.    We are also going to make a new Group from next season. After the disappointment in Paris, 4 out of the 5 girls announced their retirement.
    • true, but was expecting India to get troubles from Australia, not from New Zealand, and specially not by being bowled out. Makes the group phase interesting though
    • The 4th best team in the world beating the 3rd best team in the world is not a huge surprise though.
