Is it possible for a nation to compete in a synchronized event at the Olympics if the two athletes qualified individually or in another synchronized event (but not as a duo in the same event)?

No only the eight qualified teams get to compete.

Men's trampoline - max 9, men's platform - max 7 or 9 (maybe Japan give up quota). Women's platform max 9-10 (PRK quota allocated via World Cup?), max 6 women's trampoline (small number of athlethes who can start in  both the events). And we have a number 136 athletes. I think synchro duets mostly will be the same like in World Cup), maybe Mexico and China will change something.

Why do you think that Japan will give up quota?

Then I agree with the person who earlier said in this thread that only allowing 8 teams is absurd, they wouldn’t even have to allow more athletes. At the same time tons of completely hopeless teams are allowed to compete in other sports:

Water polo: South Africa, Kazakhstan

Field hockey: South Africa

Football: South Africa, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Honduras, Zambia, Chile

Handball: Bahrain, Angola

Table tennis: Australia, Egypt, Serbia, Slovenia, USA, Hungary, Poland, Canada, Cuba, India

Volleyball: Tunisia, Venezuela, Canada, Kenya, Argentina

Swimming: Poland, Hong Kong, South Korea, New Zealand, Czech Republic, Israel, Lithuania, Switzerland

If they would reduce team sports to 8 teams by throwing out useless teams, they could actually allow all good athletes to compete in other sports like fencing.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

According to the qualification document

B5769239-78CB-4205-A397-5504DF697A60.jpeg

So according to this, everyone NOC with a diver advancing to semis and that has not already qualified 1 or 2 divers in this particular event shall have a quota (or two).

So the following divers have now gained a spot in women’s 3m:

:USA Sarah Bacon

:MEX Aranza Vázquez Montaño

:USA Samantha Pickens

:UKR Anna Pysmenska

:JPN Haruka Enomoto

:SWE Emma Gullstrand

:SUI Michelle Heimberg

:GBR Scarlet Mew Jensen/Maria Papworth Burrel

:BRA Luana Lira

:KOR Suji Kim

However we shall wait until FINA confirms all of them advance, as document also says says “Up to 18”, meaning some of them may still be left out

Mexican Olympic Commitee already published that Aranza got a spot for the Olympics for Mexico

Though after the embarassment with them in figure skating saying that Donovan Carrillo did not qualify to the Olympics just to find out days later they did not even care to read the rules from the begining and get assured that he was surely qualified, I wont take them that seriously LOL

Yeah, the rule is not clear, so I’ll wait until every event here’s completed so we can add every athlete earning a place and identify those most likely to double in one or more events like Woo and Punzel, to see if the total entries is below or above 68 per gender and 136 in total

A Japanese diver coming out of nowhere to score 86.40 on home soil. Not suspicious at all

And great work for Rosset :FRA I hope he earn similar marks through the competition and earn that spot for himself. In that case does France has another capable diver in 10m @Benolympique?

no Benjamin Auffret retired and will not participate in the Olympic Games, if he wins this quota today, they will be selected

    • In the end, Team Shuster did pull out the W for the Men in the Finals.  His opponent, Team Stopera, is the one that Korey Dropkin led before exiting to compete in XD for MiCo.   And for the Women, Team (Delaney) Strouse won, taking out Team Cousins (who was the #1 seed).  I don't know much about her or her team.  Per Wikipedia, in 2022, she won Bronze in the World Juniors.  Will see both these teams at Worlds later this month!    Let's go  !   Here's a pic from the Strouse/Cousins Page Final 1v2 game:   A couple of other pics from last night:   (Tonight, Chris Plys joined the other two in having sleeveless jerseys.)   A zoomed-out pic of the coliseum where we were.  Fairly low attended, just about 200 people maybe.  (Same for tonight's final.)

    • Tentoglou won the men's long jump with 8.22. He only had two valid jumps today.   Another U20NR came in the women's shot put from Maria Rafailidou. She had 16.53 earlier this week and now got 16.59. She's second in the world for U20 this year    So of course Karalis was the big star of our nationals this year, more than Tentoglou, but we also had a lot of teenagers show good signs for the future (Antonatou, Alivizatos, Mitropoulou, Iakovaki, Rafailidou etc).   Antonatou and Alivizatos are both from Kefalonia island. Antonatou's brother is a shot putter who is 19 yo and had a new PB yesterday of 17.92 in the NCAA. I don't remember us ever having any strong athletes from Kefalonia in any sport aside from the late Anna Pollatou who won an Olympic bronze in rhythmic gymnastics. What are they feeding these kids on this island (it only has about 35.000 residents)?! Very impressive.
