Women's 3x3 Basketball Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

No big change today apart from Chinese Taipei casually losing 4,000,000 points...they are at 6,511,235 now.

Is it even possible for individuals to loose points ? I had the impression that it was only a cumulative ranking.

whole series of tournaments seem to have been "cancelled" from the rankings (don't know why...are they checking if there were irregularities in the organization? were they caught cheating?) especially for C.Taipei and France (among top ranked nations)

see "Absolute 3x3 women's series" https://play.fiba3x3.com/players/d020e9a9-5898-4d3c-b106-3b6580acd974/activity

"Promo Pro camp 3x3" https://play.fiba3x3.com/players/93854753-e738-414c-9bf2-24e6ec79a2b6/activity , also some "downgrades due to small division".

This is happening since a couple of days ago after the rankings were hidden as far as I know...hardly a coincidence if you ask me.

I would guess that they originally categorized them incorrectly. So seeing (eg) Mongoliarack up points in multiple tournaments a day, they may have decided to investigate it

I'd guess the new "unveiled" rankings will be far closer to a "normal" qualification rankings (i.e. only international competitions count etc)

It even sounds worse than I thought. Some competitions starting not counting anymore or being downgraded for unknown or dubious reasons but only for a couple of designated nations.

At that point, I also can think of national federations taking this shit to courts.

It's time for FIBA to just cancel the WR qualification and let 6 or 7 teams qualify from the QT depending on which host team gets the automatic quota.

Yeah, maybe they will investigate some dubious results, but there is no way they cancel WR, or change its formula. That would be just asking for a lawsuit.

Also, keep in mind that all Mongolian tournaments were streamed on their infamous MGL 3x3 Facebook page. I wonder if that can be a conclusive proof of their qualification (and human rights abuse). :p

Two days to go and it's probably all decided...sum of top 100 individuals:

Russia     12 467 190

China       11 780 700

Mongolia  10 965 440 (lost some points but they keep playing and getting more)

Romania  10 268 310

France      8 184 681 (they keep playing but many tournaments with too few teams or no data that are not counted in the ranking as of now)

Italy           6 829 440

Iran           6 778 875 (lost points)

TPE          6 394 735 (lost millions of points)

Well Mongolia looks very safe, especially with the rule that only a maximum of two nations from the same continent can qualify via this method.

And then there is always a possibility that the hidden ranking will turn out to be completely different, because 3x3. :p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
