Sailing at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Meanwhile 3rd and 5th places today for :HUN  Berecz in Finn, he's still 3rd in the overall ranking. 3 more races... this will be incredibly close. :GBR Giles Scott seems unbeatable, but the fight for the podium is still open.

RSX men finals was absolutely madness, at the end China wins the bronze and we finished 4th 1pt behind, can’t be disappointed since I thought Cohen will finish  6th or 5th

Myszka was so close to medal in RS:X :( I feel sorry for him. He will not have another chance for medal as he will retire soon :(

Laser fleet made note of the false starts in RS:X yesterday. Everyone well back of the line as the race begins.

Silver for Tonči :bounce:

What a redemption for him, after losing almost safe bronze in London (during medal race), and almost safe gold in Rio (also during medal race). :hyper:

It's unbelievable how many times Berecz fucks up the start of the race... Almost every time. He's really lucky that the the field in Finn is small and there still seem to be a big skill difference between the top sailors and the rest because the top sailors are almost never in danger of finishing outside of the Top10. Which means that no matter how much Berecz fucks up the start, he almost always saves it, just like in Race 9 where we was 13th at the first mark and then he climbed up to the 4th place by the end.

Anyway, Berecz is still 3rd, if he can finish in the Top5 in the last two races, he won't lose the medal. Giles Scott is already the winner of this event, maybe Berecz would have had a chance against him if his starts wouldn't be dreadful for some reason.

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
