The Dutch quota not being used was 99,99% certain, but Slovakia? Damn, @hckosice must be heartbroken :(

you are apparently right about the heartbreaking...

just found it in our Olympic site:

Na pravú mieru: ÚČASŤ BOBISTOV V PJONGČANGU JE NEISTÁ!
Bobisti síce splnili kritérium rebríčkového postavenia, pilot tímu však ešte pred dvomi rokmi reprezentoval inú krajinu, čo je v rozpore s kritériami MOV. Ďalšie info čoskoro.

translation:

To put things on right side: our 4 man bob participation in Korea is still uncertain ! The team achieved the standards and is qualified for the Games, BUT the pilot of our bobs is not eligible to compete in PC 2018, since he 2 years ago represented another country (CZE) which is in contradiction of the IOC rules ! more info to come soon...

Well, let's wait and see, I don't think that rule is so harshly applied.

I can remember quite a few nationality changes that happened right before Rio.

the IOC Olympic charter s

Quote

2.
A competitor who has represented one country in the Olympic Games, in continental
or regional games or in world or regional championships recognised by the relevant
IF, and who has changed his nationality or acquired a new nationality, may participate
in the Olympic Games to represent his new country provided that at least three years
have passed since the competitor last represented his former country. This period may
be reduced or even cancelled, with the agreement of the NOCs and IF concerned, by
the IOC Executive Board, which takes into account the circumstances of each case

so, if the Czechs will waive the period and let the guy (Radek Matoušek) to compete for us and fulfill his (and all other guys from the 4 bob crew) Olympic dream, it shouldn´t be a problem IMO, you know CZE and SVK are in general famous for generous and highly friendly relationship..but yes, you know, stranger things happened..

And the IBSF and IOC will have to approve the deal.

4 man bob quotas announced

Looks like Netherlands and Slovakia have turned down their quota

So, there is still chance that Polish bob will qualify?

I misunderstood the meaning of the document.

Netherlands and Slovakia have been awarded a place but all nations still have to confirm they accept the place.

The Dutch probably will not accept their place, Slovakia have problems, so there is still a chance for Poland,

The IOC will not say no. Why would they block an athlete who has qualified??

Yeah, Spain has for example already selected a figure skater who competed for Russia in 2015/16 season, so same as Matousek.

Hopefully it will work out for the Slovaks. :yes

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
