Rather unsurpsiringly, the nominations in the Netherlands were made only after the Formula 1 decider :p

Man: Max Verstappen, Niek Kimmann, Harrie Lavreysen
Woman: Sifan Hassan, Suzanne Schulting en Annemiek van Vleuten
Paralympic athlete: Diede de Groot, Jetze Plat en rolstoelbasketballers
Team: Track cyclists (sprint, I assume), hockey women, rowing fours
Coach: Hugo Haak, Laurent Meuwly en Eelke vd Wal

Man and woman should really be no-breaners in favour of obviously Verstappen and Hassan, probably the team and coach (Haak, the track sprinters coach) as well.

A sportsman of the year award for Verstappen feels so wrong to me, but it's inevitable now. I'd much rather see Lavreysen win it personally.

I feel like Meuwly also has a chance for the coach of the year. The track relay teams have had a really good showing this year at the indoor Euros, Worls Relays and the Olympics. And both of the 400m teams are a good media presence as well.

The other categories are lock-ins I agree.

No other sportsman this year has had a result that comes even close to what he has done now in terms of overall impact and general historic value in the history of Dutch sports. Without meaning anything bad towards Lavreysen and Kimmann, because they are absolutely worthy contenders.

British nominations, also from this morning, strangely enough.

Tom Daley, Olympic diver

Tyson Fury, Pro Boxer

Adam Peaty, Olympic Swimmer

Emma Raducanu, Tennis

Raheem Sterling, Football

Dame Sarah Storey, Paralympic cyclist.

Raducanu is the strong favourite.

Olimpia Awards ceremony took place yesterday (most notorious sport award in the country, voted by journalists).

Winner of the Olimpia de Oro ("golden Olimpia") and thus chosen argentine sportperson of the year was... Lionel Messi

Extremely predictable winner must I say. This award historically has tried to stay away from footballers (this is "only" the 7th golden olimpia for a footballer in 67 years of the award and Messi's second) but this year there wasn't really any option.

Also, tennis player Diego Schwartzman was retroactively given the same award but for 2020 (the ceremony couldn't take place last year).

Here is a list with the previous winners.

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
