I remember when Ferrari dominated inFormula 1 in the early 21st century, the rules were deliberately changed to limit their advantage. Something similar recently happened with Mercedes' dominance after 2020. And here we have a situation where Norway is favored, if the Finns are telling the truth and that's strange – should the richest federation get some extra advantage from FIS? It's certainly better for the popularity of a given discipline to have a more diverse nations on the front, than to have 3 Norwegians skiers at the front with the rest of the world 2 minutes behind. But maybe that will change, because Norway isn't as dominant in the women's competitions without Bjoergen and Johaug. I think the situation will change somewhat after Klaebo's career, even without Rus's return. Without Klaebo, Norway would not have won the entire gold medal here: in the sprint it would have been Ogden from the USA, and in the combined race: Frenchman Desloges. Of course, the stars like Klaebo and Phelps build the popularity of a their disciplines, but it always takes some kind of great rivalry- a great rival- for people to really take an interest that. For example, in Beijing, Phelps won 8 gold medals, but in the 100 butterfly, there was fierce competition and controversy with battle against Milorad Cavic. In Klaebo's case, this hasn't been that`s case since Bolshunov's exclusion and that certainly has some impact on the overall situation. -
