:NED  Ben Pon who finished 31st (out of 63) in the 1972 Olympic skeet shooting passed away aged 82.

He's better known for flipping the privateer Porsche 787 two laps into the 1962 Dutch GP which proved to be his only F1 start.

:AUT  Wolfgang Perner (biathlon) has died aged 52 after long illness (probably cancer).

I know this lady wasn’t an Olympian, but I feel like Paralympians count for this thread too. She will be missed:

Good news in a sad way. She had suffered enough and now can hopefully finally find the peace she wanted so badly. Sleeping one hour a night again and again simply because the pain is so excruciating is no way to live.

Brazilian judoka Mario Sabino has been shot and killed aged 47, apparently after a fight with a military colleague who then killed himself as well (?).

Competed at the 2000 (quarterfinals) and 2004 Olympics and won world bronze in 2003.

Posted this in the water polo section and adding it here.  The water polo world has lost a great one. 4x Olympian, gold medalist and World Champion for Hungary, 6’11” legend Istvan Szivos (white cap with hands out of water).  I had the honor of playing against him multiple times (he’s guarding me in this pic) and to put it mildly, it was always a brutally challenging experience. He was always a true gentleman and sportsman. Rest In Peace

    • Franchi had a similarly impressive performance at the 2023 World Championships on the same distance but later she completly missing. I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
