A senior member of Japan’s ruling party has said that cancelling the Tokyo Olympics “remains an option” if the coronavirus pandemic continues to worsen.

“If it seems impossible to do it any more, then we have to stop, decisively,” Toshihiro Nikai, secretary general of the Liberal Democratic party, said in a TV interview that has yet to be aired.

Either they cancel it or postpone it to 2022, they should borrow money to their allies like america if they can't afford to postpone it.

With how the Chinese Vaccine being used in Hungary is proving to be ineffective I would not count on that happening.

No, they are mainly using what the EU uses, astrazeneca and other western vaccines that causes blood clots. (As stated by eu themselves). So pls stop spewing some bullshit.

More than 500k have been vaccinated with the Chinese Vaccine which China itself admitted is not truly effective.

It doesn't matter how effective the Chinese vaccine actually is, facts matter very little in Hungary when it comes to politics. If Orbán says that it's good enough, then there's nothing UEFA or EU can do to stop us from having a match with a full stadium other than to take away the matches from Budapest, but that's just not going to happen.

The Hungarian Olympic Committee has announced that so far 665 Hungarian athletes have been vaccinated, 37 athletes are still waiting for the vaccine, and 103 athletes refused to take it. Overall most of our team will be vaccinated for Tokyo.

It won't get postponed to next year.  Very highly likely IMO that the Olympics happen this summer.  We've heard before about government officials wanting to cancel them.  I don't see it happening.  They're just saying it to go along with public opinion.

No way Tokyo gets postponed again. Hell, WOG in Beijing will most likely go ahead as planned and Japan can't get their shit together for two years? It's either cancel or go ahead later this summer. If Japan cancels the games they should be banned from applying for another OG for the next 50 years or something!

    • It's not a coincidence that a lot of the matches that are earlier in the day are in Atlanta and Houston and Dallas where they have roofs.  And most of the games in the outdoor stadiums are later in the day.
    • The best athletes will all be there anyway – it's easier to get a spot in the top 10-15. Only the great champions were ahead of Gismondi today.
    • They are not "oppressed enough" to be mention here.
    • And remember the Olympic Paradox - it is slightly easier to get a medal at the Olympics than at a World Cup because in the Olympics the numbers of racers from the powerful nations are capped at 4.
    • Jimmy Mariano  basketball. 84 years old.   Member of the Philippine men’s basketball team at the 1972 Summer Olympics. Flag bearer for the Philippine delegation at those Games.
    • Franchi had a similarly impressive performance at the 2023 World Championships on the same distance but later she completly missing. I hope that with Gismondi will be different, especially since she was already a great talent in her junior years. The problem in Italy is that for the past 15 years, aside from Pellegrino, there has been a miss of stability in other athletes: there are some booms of excellent form, but later they disappear. I also worry that funding for cross-country skiing will be cut after the Cortina Olympics.
    • The last day was a great success, for first. Secondly, even 20 medals are fewer than the 22 from 2023 and 34 from 2021
