UEFA and CONMEBOL won't support the biennial World Cup and this makes the whole point moot. Not even worth to talk about it.
Jan Linha 590 Posted December 2, 2021 #522 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Well, I am sure of one thing. Some steps China does ... Let's say does not really help the country image but they unfortunately realize after doing it. A k.a. Peng Shuai case ...... Countries will 99% sure not boycott Olympics in a sports way but they may do the political boycott. Would be difficult to restore the good relations with China but it's every country's decision ... Anyways, what I am expecting is an individual athlete boycott. Some athletes have decided not to take the vaccine, some don't agree with Games in China or the political system/relations. So I expect some already qualified athletes may withdraw/boycott the Games. Ted

Fifa could split into two.
Shiffrin 33 Posted December 2, 2021 #524 Share Posted December 2, 2021 The fact is IOC’s reputation has been damaged, acting as CCTV’s puppet because they told everyone Peng is okay, so there wasn’t any need for those fake interviews/statements they usually make people do. https://chinachange.org/2021/12/01/what-awaits-peng-shuai/ this article perfectly summarized what IOC has gotten a indirect culprit in. heywoodu 15,135 Posted December 2, 2021 #526 Share Posted December 2, 2021 The only actual issues in terms of the Games being somewhat succesful are the things surrounding the virus and the expected lack of snow, with many venues in the mountains still looking....well, the opposite of snowy. Everything political or semi-political won't actually have a large impact on the Games, other than a head of state of one country or another not being there, but who cares about that anyway Ted 1 . Orangehair43 251 Posted December 2, 2021 #527 Share Posted December 2, 2021 China must be fearing a total boycott from the USA if they demanding companies speak out against it.

The Peng statement was a new low though. Far below anything they have done previously. #banbestmen
Orangehair43 251 Posted December 2, 2021 #530 Share Posted December 2, 2021 I am not sure any democratic country will bid for a future games. The process for 2030 could well collapse soon.
