Archery at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

Svetlana Gomboeva :ROC collapsed after completing the ranking round and said it was 'probably heatstroke'. It's 30 degrees Celsius. She felt fine after having some water though.

Marie Horácková :CZE got doable opponent for the 1st round. :JPN Miki Nakamura as the worst ranked out of home archer is surely beatable!! Wish her to make it at least to the 2nd round!!

Btw, really nice PB for :SVK Baranková and 12th spot in the ranking round ???

Yep, new PB and new National Junior Record :) Missed the seniors NR by 3 points.

Really pleasant result from Denisa. Nobody was expected anything like this. I first thought there some mistake in the live score when she was listed 5th after 36 arrows, but it was not. In second half she struggled more with the pressure and did not shoot so well, but still it was enough to achieve her personal best and new slovak NJR.

The reason was more like kinda "internal competition" She said that she was so extremely motivated because she was shooting in the stand 63 between both super favorised :KOR girls and was trying to not look too weak and dumb infront of them :p

The Men's Archery will be tough.
:GBR Patrick Huston came 25th and will face :BRA Marcus D'Almeida, but then if he wins will probably face :NED Sjef van den Berg, a tough match
:GBR James Woodgate came 38th and will face :KAZ Ilfat Abdullin, and if he wins probably :NED Steve Wijler against whom he would expect to win
:GBR Tom Hall came 48th and faces :BAN Md Ruman Shana. If he survives to the Round of 16, he would probably face No. 1 seed :KOR Je Deok Kim

The team came 10th and will face :INA, if we win this, we face :CHN which will be difficult
The mixed team came 12th and also faces :CHN again very difficult

Another thought is that San An :KOR's score would have been enough for 5th in the men's competition, which is very impressive

Good chance for Mexican team to fight for the medals.

It will be hard for individuals, but again in 2012, Roman and a teenage Avitia proved the world Koreans aren’t undefeatable.

And Alejandra Valencia did that too in Rio knocking out world number 1 then (to later finish 4th)

I have good feeling for Mexico in Team, we wont face Korea until a potential final and one of our traditional rivals, Germany/Taipei one will be out in the round of 16

Hopefully Ana Vazquez got the jitters and nerves out of her in the poor qualification she had and now goes for her best in the Quarterfinals of the team competition next Sunday, we need her big time in case Aida goes back to her bad days she often has.

Alejandra Valencia proving once again why she desperately deserves an olympic medal!! The best non korean archer right now, very consistent.

Mexico qualifies in 4th coming the Mixed Team competition but will face in the first round the Germans, tough match

It's nice they have a 15 minute highlights video on Eurosport for both ranking rounds, but I had hoped that would be with some sort of commentator who'd tell a little about how the top athletes did and such. Now it's just 15 minutes of watching seemingly random athletes shoot single arrows without even seeing where they land or getting any indication on the scores whatsoever until you skip to 14 minutes and they show the results :d

    • This came out on the official website yesterday. Updated list of events and competition schedules in Japanese.   Padel and Teqball are on the schedules. Looks like two events for Padel and five for Teqball.   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会競技プログラム.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会デイリースケジュール.pdf   https://www.aichi-nagoya2026.org/files/common/260427競技スケジュール/01_日本語/01_アジア/第20回アジア競技大会セッションスケジュール.pdf   On the sports programme PDF, Padel is #25 and Teqball is #38.
    • looks like the agreement is the international federations are in fact hosting the event, not the AG organizers, so everything is up to them to make it happen.   Teqball is now confirmed to have 5 events (singles and doubles) does it mean easy 5 gold medals for Thailand ?   Padel is not 100% confirmed yet. I assume there are still talks ongoing between the IF and the Japanese organizers.
    • I feel like this year's Eurovision is more wide open than ever 😂   There isn't a clear favorite, and that makes everything more exciting. Finland is looking strong, sure, but Ukraine always knows how to surprise people and connect with them. I was checking out the odds a bit, and I was struck by how quickly they're rising.   By the way, I found a site that compares the odds pretty clearly: https://casasdeapuestaseurovision.com/   It’s nothing special, but it gives you an idea of how things are shaping up before the semifinals. Although we all know how this goes… at Eurovision, everything can change in a matter of minutes
