Tennis at the Summer Olympic Games 2020

Recommended Posts

:HUN Tímea Babos had to w/o after an injury today at the Hungarian GP. There isn't any official news on how serious the injury is, but it looked bad, I wouldn't be surprised if we lose two athlete quotas in women's doubles.

Breaking: Dan Evans has tested positive for COVID-19 and has pulled out of the Olympic Games. Fellow British No 1 Johanna Konta announced the same yesterday.

Slovakia received two invitations during last night (Andrej Martin M Singles & Anna Karolína Schmiedlová W Singles). However after quick consultation with both players refused both of the quotas for logical lack of time to complete absurd Japanese administrative tasks and due to already full calendar of both players in the next weeks.

Well, that probably means they also invited :HUN Attila Balázs. There isn't any news from Hungarian sources, so I think there's a good chance that he also rejected the quota.

I think that this will happen with most players that did not anticipate a nomination. In the end they will have to fill the singles competitions with double players that are already in Tokio.

Yep, I think something similar like that happened in Rio. I am sure, that :CZE Lucie Hradecká was supposed to participate on in doubles and later was also playing in singles where she lost in 1st round to :DEN Wozniacki .....

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
    • Today : Jordan 3-0 Egypt  This team will surprise us
