This was amazing! The European Champs were unfortunately kind of underrated here because of the Euro 2016 in football, but the portuguese did an amazing result! 3 golds in total (!!!!:yikes:!!!) and 3 medals on Olympic events (including 1 Gold!!), it really is incredible!!! (in 2014 I think we only got a medal, a bronze one)

In fact, it was so great that the whole athletic team was received at the airport wih a big celebration singing our national anthem:

Start list for the 800m at the DL in Monaco Friday:

First time since the new rules that Niyonsaba, Wambui and Semenya will be in the same race (first time ever as well, I think), so that should provide fans with fireworks :cheer:

The rest of the events don't seem to have very special entries yet.

Didnt know that they planned to announce the team today ...

Sadly we will send a lot of tourists. First we had very tough standards and now basically everyone possible got nominated ...

I think the official explanation is that you cant have those tough standards when you have such a huge doping scandal at the same time.

I am glad though to see Holzdeppe and Moguenara on the list, i hope they get fit in time, then they could challenge for a medal. Weber deserved to be nominated but Obergföll didnt in my opinion, its pretty sick that the current world champion (Molitor) didnt get nominated, i am very sorry for her and i am sure that she wouldve won a medal in Rio.

Giehl has been improving steadily in the last weeks, so i understand that he got nominated although he didnt manage to make the standard of 49.40s, especially considering the weak level of competition in mens 400m hurdles at the moment. Basically the same is true for Dahm. I think the only reason why Erewa, Kosenkow, Schmidt, Hering, Burghardt, Ferenz and Kwadwo got nominated is that DOSB wanted to have as many athletes as possible in Rio.

I am also glad for Heinle, he made the standard last year and i expect him to do much better than Camara in Rio.

I dont like the fact that Kock, Krebs and Woitha got nominated, none of them will come close to the final.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • It's waaaay too expensive & inconvenient. Basically WOG minus the bobsleigh track & indoor arena for figure skating/hockey(which is the easy part of Olympic bid). Just won't happen anytime soon. Winter sports are too facility dependant and the entire alpine skiing requires a separate venue.

    • Also a first: never before has a Dutch pair participated in the games, according to media rapports.
    • The Technical director of the Dutch Olympic Committee has, using his discretionary powers, decided to include them in the team. He cites “extra-ordinary circumstances”, but has not stated what they are. The use of these powers is quite rare. They were used in 2022 to nominate an alpine-skier.
