Artistic Gymnastics 2021 Discussion Thread

Eythora Thorsdottir might deliberately sit out the Olympics. Her coach, Patrick Kiens, is no longer welcome in any role at the national team and the federation is putting pressure on their club to let him go as well - he was put aside due to "disrespectful behaviour towards other coaches, not being a team player and communicating badly".

Thorsdottir has been working with him since 2008 and for her it's clear: "I'm going to the Olympics with him or I'm not going to the Olympics at all."

So yeah, bit of emotional drama stuff.

Asian Championship  likely cancelled.

Due COVID-19 protocols, Chengdu won't host the Asian Champs. Also, Universiade is postponed to 2022.

Chengdu was the host since March, when Hangzhou gave up hosting(Covid).

This is just an  unofficial rumor on the Chinese Gymternet(Although, in Kazakhstan some Coaches was claiming "Our main competition will be the Asian Championship which will take place in Chengdu, China on May 29Th-June 1St. We hope to in one of the two Olympic Spots available in the All Around. Jennifer Gadirova will miss the European Championships. At this point, it's more and more likely that one of the Russians and Larissa Iordache will be the ones qualified to Tokyo. Last year I thought Iordache had no chance of qualifying at all, but now that Great Britain, Italy and France either lost or are not allowed to use their best gymnasts, the path is wide open for Iordache.
