Short Track Speed Skating at the Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026

Recommended Posts

Now I'm most curious about the events where :CAN and :CHNwill win their first - gold medals. I really think that one of the two countries will win the Men's 1,500m tonight.

Dutch kids really into skating, try use sticks you´ll see it is fun, I am sure you´ll be good at it

But in ice hockey you can only contend over one medal. Speed skating/short track has dozens. :p

Big Air Freeski for China probably. Canada... maybe Kingsbury will do it tomorrow after missing out on single moguls gold? Or Sarault in the 1000 on monday.

:CAN's best gold medal chance by far on Sunday is the men's dual moguls, but I really doubt there is any way Kingsbury wins that (I expect everyone to go all in against him and for the judges to go against him on any close dual). There is a very small chance :CAN wins the women's large hill in ski jumping, but we are talking low single digit percentage chance.

Then there is the women's 1000m in short track. If :CAN fails to win all of those, then there is a real chance the women's ski big air on Monday will be a fight between :CAN and :CHN for their first gold (and then ofc someone else will end up winning xD )

Tomorrow, China's only chance to win a medal will be in the mixed team event of skeleton. However, I think :GER and :GBRare more likely to be the winners.

Disgraceful if this sport remains but Nordic combined is axed. A nonsensical lottery,

It has not remained unnoticed that one person is conspicously missing in all the orange festivities. Schulting was in the stadium yesterday as reserve for the relay, but according to the NOS left the stadium immediately after that race.

The post race interview made clear that the team would prefer her not to race in the final.

The best ever Oloympic result for :UKR in short track yesterday.

And the story behind.

***

On the eve of the 2026 Olympics, Oleg Handey admitted that he was banned from competing in his helmet, as were two other Ukrainians: skeleton racer Vladislav Heraskevich and freestyle skier Kateryna Kotsar. The reason for the ban was the words of Ukrainian writer Lina Kostenko: “Where there is heroism, there is no final defeat” — they were perceived as a “political slogan.”

In the end, Handey was allowed to compete in his helmet, but on condition that the inscription on the helmet would not be visible. In order not to change his usual equipment, Oleh covered the inscription with a gray sticker.

Despite the inscription already being covered up, on the day of the competition, official representatives of the ISU approached the Ukrainian short track speed skater again and warned him of possible disqualification from the competition, Gandey said in an exclusive comment to Suspilne Sport. The Ukrainian admitted that this situation affected his mental state before the start.

"Unfortunately, I couldn't [distract myself from the helmet situation]. I arrived at the arena an hour before the start. ISU representatives approached me and warned that if I interfered or argued, I would be disqualified. I signed certain documents stating that I would not do so, that I would not remove any stickers in order to participate. And that knocked me out at a certain point."

"I was warming up. I had certain thoughts in my head about not following the tactics. What should I do? What should I say? What specific actions should I take? To be honest, I was angry about this situation, that representatives approached me and told me directly what I could and couldn't do. In other words, they dictated their rules, their conditions. Even though there's nothing illegal about it, I don't do anything like that. Of course, it threw me off, but thanks to the Polish coaches, the Polish coach who calmed me down, who gave me advice on how to act, what to think, what to say."
