Weightlifting Discussion | Qualification to Summer Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 Road to LA 2028

Not increasing the athlete quota is disgusting. 12 per event was already insulting enough.

Should we expect max quota per gender per NOC to increase to 4 then?

no, I don't think so, since the total number of lifters is still the same

I mean, between five weight classes or six weight classes... obviously better for the lifters to have six weight classes, even if it goes down from 12 to 10 lifters per.

BIG news !

IOC EB approved the addition of two more bodyweight categories so we will have 6 for men and 6 for women .

Athletes quota will remain the same

The IWF will now have until the end of 2025 to define the six categories for both men and women to be contested at the 2028 Olympic Games.

Before the extra weight rumors were that 65 , 79 , 94 , 110 , +110 will be men weight categories

No I think IWF should change weight categories again 😅

Yeah, there'll be a gap no matter what they do. One option would be -60kg, -71kg, -79kg, -94kg, -110kg, +110kg for the men and -53kg, -63kg, -69kg, -77kg, -86kg, +86kg for the women
