How many medals do you expect from your Nation at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024?

It will be difficult Olympics for :POL Poland. In the 21st century we struggle to get a double-digit number of medals. Until now it worked every single time. In Paris it might not be that optimistic.

Realistically it will be something between 8 and 11, 2-3 gold. Four should be in for sure (no screenshots please!;). From the section "probable" I hope for 3 out of 7. The section "maybe" should deliver 1 medal out of 8 opportunities. The rest is chance.

I wish I would be proved sooo wrong, but the past Games have taught me to keep the expectations low. Still I take my vacation for the Olympics to watch undisturbed;)

For those who want to know the detail:

Absolutely Must:

Rowing - M4X - bronze
Sport Climbing - Speed - A. Mirosław - gold
Tennis - W ind - I. Świątek - gold
Volleyball - Team Men - something

Probable

K2 W - silver
K4 W - bronze
Fencing - Team Epee - bronze
Judo -63kg W - Angelika Szymanska - silver
Sailing - IQFoil M - Paweł Tarnowski - gold
Sport Climbing - Speed - N. Kałucka - bronze
Athletics - Hammer Throw M - W. Nowicki - silver

Maybe

Canoe Slalom - Klaudia Zwolinska K1 - bronze
Shooting - someone? - bronze
Sailing - someone? - bronze
Swimming - someone? - bronze
Tennis - Mixed Doubles - bronze
Volleyball - Team women - bronze
Wrestling - Z. Baranowski - bronze
Athletics - 400W - N. Kaczmarek - bronze

With looooooooooads of luck:

Beach Volleyball - Bryl/Łosiak
Basketball 3x3 - Men's Team
Boxing - someone
Wrestling - some woman
Athletics - 100m hurdles - Pia Skrzyszowska
Athletics - 4x400X
Athletics - 4x400W

Road Cycling - W Road Race - K. Niewiadoma

Track Cycling - Mateusz Rudyk - Ind Sprint - bronze

I sadly agree. For the country that 15 medals seem as acceptable minimum we again fall to misery when Tokyo seemed to give some hope. While we got better in some disciplines athletics just fell to misery last year, our main discipline. So it is difficult to have high hopes. Observing my country, living here for 47 years, i assume it will be last OG with vacation reserved. Maybe we should make some arenas between pis and antypis people to raise our sport because this country starts to be this sick bipolar entity without any positive elements (yes, i've never been more tired with my country than from some 3-5 years now). Medalwise we can maybe reach this 10 medals border, pointswise, emotionwise...i predict terrible OG. Shameful in a way.

I fell in love with sports.....since i first seen it

My bets for :BRA

21 medals and 4 or 5 golds.

Athletics - 1-2 - Piu is the medal favorite and I think this time we will win a medal in some walking event.

Boxing - 2-4 - It's our best team in history, probably everyone has some chance of a medal (of course some need more luck than others). Less than two medals would be disappointing.

Canoeing - 1-2 - I honestly bet on a medal here either with Isaquias Queiroz or Ana Sátila.

Gymnastics - 2-5 - Lots of chances here with Rebecca Andrade, Flávia Saraiva, the women's team, Arthur Nory (I don't think this one is classified yet) or even the girls from Rhythmic Gymnastics or trampoline. In the worst case I expect at least the performance of Tokyo which was 2 medals.

Judo - 2-3 - Mayra, Bia, Daniel, William, Baby, Team... I expect at least two medals here.

Swimming - 1 - Ana Marcela in open water.

Skate - 2-3 - Rayssa Leal, someone from the men's Park and perhaps another medal in the men's Park or even Street.

Surf - 1-2 - I think Gabriel and Tatiana will medal.

Sailing - 1 - Martine/Kahena are not exactly favorites in this sport, I'm betting on their status as current two-time Olympic champions and Brazil's history in this sport.

Volleyball - 1 - I think both teams can medal here. We have great squads who seem to be in the best moment since Tokyo. Today, I bet on one.

Beach Volleyball - 1-2 - If Ana/Duda is not going through the best moment, our other three teams seem to have finally reached a decent level.

Other/Some new sport - 1 - Our tradition of getting a medal in a new sport. It's very difficult, but I'm going to bet on archery.

Mexico

Medal Chances in

Taekwondo: 1

Diving: 3

Archery: 2

Athletics: 1

Modern pentathlon: 1

There is always an unexpected medal for Mexico when things look the worst, It could be coming from artistic gymnastics, boxing, track cyling.

Optimistic scenario: 5 to 7 medals, 1 gold

Most likely: 4 medals like in Tokyo, no golds but hopefully not only bronze.

not much, last 3 years had been tough for the country in general and I'm less optimistic than 3 previous Olympics.

I don't think it will be a disaster like 2008 only because the wrestling team is pretty strong but all other sports are fading because of mismanagement and lack of money.

it will be something between 3 to 9 medals in wrestling + probably 1 or max 2 (and maybe none) in other sports.

so I say 6 medals :(

For me one of the main points of  interest in the Iranian contingent ....would be to see whether one of my favourite wrestler Hassan yazdani becomes the greatest Iranian Olympian by winning another gold without Taylor there his chances should be excellent I feel ....

after 8 months of absence, people were mostly worried about his situation, but surprisingly he looked very good and fresh in Hungary last week. in past 8 years he destroyed everybody not named David Taylor. he is the huge favorite now that Taylor is out. but of course nothing is guaranteed, he has 3 big opponents.

In Tokyo Poland had 4 golds, 14 medals in total.

All the gold medals and 9 medals in total were in athletics.

Now athletics team is much weaker and the question is whether other sports can improve.

I say we will manage to get into double digits in total somehow... 10-12 medals, 2-4 golds.

The biggest favourites are the ones mentioned by other Polish users before.

2 medals in athletics - M hammer, W 400m

Tennis - W singles obviously

Volleyball - never-ending saga - maybe this time our Men's Team will be able to win a QF match??? Women can do sth as well

Sport climbing - W speed

Rowing - M 4x

Canoe sprint - W K2 500, W K4 500

Maybe canoe slalom (W K1) or fencing (we have 3 teams in Paris, only 8 teams per events, so there's a chance, maybe W epee)

We usually get a medal in combat sports...

And there is always 1 or 2 totally unexpected medals (like 50km race walk in Tokyo...)

The biggest fun for me would be a medal in swimming but i don't think there's much chance for that...

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
