Artistic Gymnastics at the Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024

L'Équipe reports that a "technical incident" occurred a few minutes before the french gymnasts entered the competition, which could explain their performance. No further details for the moment.

What a roller coaster this day has been.

First and foremost, I'm in shock after France failed to qualify for any final at all, including team. I would never ever think this could be possible, but here we are. They did not deserve such fate and I'm sure they're trying to find answers, but sometimes things just don't go our way. Still, a heartbreaking outcome.

:COL qualifying for the all-around final is also a big shock, and :ROU with a number of potential medal chances is great to witness again. The team final will be a huge battle, and the fact that it's almost impossible to predict which countries will take silver and bronze will make the final super exciting.

I'm very pleased with the results of the Brazilian girls and I sincerely hope that we are able to get a team medal. This will not be easy at all, but we have a chance!

Thanks for your kind words. We will probably get just one medal (Sabina Voinea-BB) but it's a promising sign for the future.

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

So, who’s in the hunt for the medals in the men’s team final? The results page is confusing me.

BBC saying it was between :CHN and :JPN for gold, and :USA, :UKR, and :GBR for bronze. But after the mistake for Hashimoto, commentator says "door could be open" for silver

As now we come across the world
To share these Games of old
Let all the flags of every land
In brotherhood unfold

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
