Back to back medals for us in Hockey

Massive for the sport of Hockey  Before our win in Cricket world cup 1983 Field Hockey was the most successful & popular sport among Indians . Delighted we are going back to those golden days

A special mention to our Goalkeeper Sreejesh who will retire after Paris . He was a wall/ rock for us at the back :d

Also well played :ESP . They played great hockey.

As a fellow keeper Sreejesh is an Icon. One hec of a tournament.

Can’t wait to watch the match on catch up later!

When we won the Bronze in Tokyo, I was overwhelmed by emotion that finally I have seen Indian team win an Olympic medal. Post that, we have seen many ups and downs. There was doubt creeping up in me, was Tokyo an aberration? Coming into Olympics, I had very low hope that we will win a medal. Our first 3 games reinforced the belief. But then, we showed up. First we matched Belgium, then we exorcised our demons and defeated Australia (a win which was as memorable as any medal). The performance in these 2 matches gave us hope. Then when we went down to 10 men against GB, I thought, here we go again but boy was I wrong. The way we defended in that match was insane. After that match, I didn’t care if we medalled or not. I was proud of my team. And they didn’t let me down in the Semis as well. They gave everything they had but still came short. We lost on a golden opportunity but it didn’t matter. We were among the best. The whole mood in Indian contingent (& supporters) has been real bad since yesterday. Unlike me who didn’t believe that we would win a medal, these men came not for 4th place or Bronze or Silver. They came for Gold. They must have been devastated. But, they picked up themselves and won the bronze. They lifted the spirits of all Indian sports fans. In India, Hockey is not just a sport but an emotion. When we were under British rule, it was Hockey where we could defeat them. After independence, Hockey was one of the few things where we excelled. Now that we are much better in other sports, economically, once again it is Hockey which has given us relief.

And special shout out to captain cool Harmanpreet and the LEGEND SREEJESH. Indian Hockey won’t be same without him. End of an era.

:NED get a penalty corner, a goal would’ve almost certainly been match over with under 1 minute to go, but they miss just wide.

Match ends at 1-1, shootout time :cheer:

Shoot-out for the gold again like in Tokyo  there should really be extra-time in the final at least. I remember the amazing one between these teams in London.
