Men

Gunnar Holmgren

Women

Isabella Holmgren

As far as medals are concerned, Gunnar might have a chance in men’s mountain biking, although he’s probably on the outside looking in. Career best 8th at the recent Novo Mestre World Cup, and 5th at the Olympic test event. Isabella, who is the reigning junior World Champion, dominated in her U23 debut in Novo Mestre, winning by over 2 minutes. Won’t trouble for a medal, but it really shows what she’s capable of.

Off topic but they must be Swedish-related somehow? Gunnar Holmgren sounds definately like a 60-70 year Swedish man

And therefore out of the Tour de France (not necessarily because of being positive, but because of not being 100% fit). Shouldn't be too much of a problem for the Olympics though.

Might be a blessing in disguise that he doesn't have to go through the severe fatigue of a TdF

Less promising is what a team doctor of another team just said on Belgian TV, where they were doing a bit of interviews on the COVID situation: "Yesterday Pidcock came up to me to say hi, and he was looking awful. Didn't need a test to see what was going to happen there..."

Only 2.5 weeks. He’s not out because he has covid but because of fitness, so that could be troubling nonetheless. Hope he can recover in time.

There isn’t in cycling, so we can assume other sports are similar

Plenty are sick and have had to pull out, but others have said to have tested positive and continued

    • It’s not just that. It’s part of the whole cutting numbers to raise standards policy.
    • I'm guessing most of the big teams have been told to watch the numbers.
    • Something that Germany desperately needed, because they're getting destroyed by Norway and France. Sweden is also moving ahead with capable athletes like the Oebergs, Samuelsson, Ponsi and new Swedish improvements like Halvarsson, Heijdenberg, plus it's probable that Andersson comes through next year as well.   With the level that Norwegian men and French women have, I don't really see Germany being ready to challenge next year.    Have a feeling it's gonna be Perrot, Giacomel and a handful of Norwegians battling it out next year.    As for the women, I think it looks like a French year, with Jeanmonnot + Michelon and Richard getting more time to get better, it's tough to see who could be consistent enough to challenge. Although, I would love for the Oeberg sisters to have a season where they're both healthy throughout. It's also uncertain what kind of Vittozzi we're getting, if Grotian has enough time to become a challenger and in what kind of form will Preuss come back to, after her first ever season with no health issues.
