:VEN Yulimar Rojas (athletics) :cry::cry:

Reigning Olympic Champion in women’s triple jump, reigning World Record holder, reigning 4x World Champion and widely considered as the best athlete all time in this event, but won’t be defending her title at Paris after suffering an achilles injury during training. Wide open for the gold medal now.

Damn :(

There were already a surprising amount of potential challengers, but of course she was still the favourite even with the rise in level recently. Now the fight has the potential to be amazing, including a potential bit of history for Dominica.

She was probably in the top 5 most secure Golds in the whole OG :yikes: And the season hasn't even started properly.

 This is devastating. Yulimar Rojas is one of my fav athletes. Had a nice photo with her in Budapest.

As always this is the worst part of these last months before Olympics - almost everyday news on who will miss the games due to injury… ☹️

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
