Single mixed relays don't allow any new nations on the podium. It's just the cliche excuse. They only allow the rich to get richer, as do all other team events...

Says a lot about the potential in the event when Danish commentators talk about that it could be an event that Denmark could take part in (spoiler alert: not gonna happen any time soon :p )

'

Personally I enjoy it. Like @phelps I'm not a supporter of it taking the place of other Olympic events (if anything, it should be the normal mixed relay), but I absolutely don't mind the close racing that it creates.

Estonia would probably disagree with you :p

But it could be an exception from the rule. Any team event favors the big nations by default

And don't even get me started on the name. Both "mixed relay" and "single mixed relay" on the Olympic program? Hilarious.

What's next? "Triple mixed relay"? "Single double mixed relay"?

Though I guess they would only disagree during those WC days when both mixed relays are held on the same day for some reason. :p

The chance of this event (and the point that bothers me most with biathlon at the Olympics) is that it doesn't require any additional quota...

With a good communication on how It could open the podium to more nations we could well see it at the Games in the future. But we know that 6 countries will battle for the podium in the end :)

So I gave it another chance...but I can not help myself, I can not find any sympathy or excitement for this single mixed relay. This is The most useless and ridiculous biathlon event, this should definitely stay on the auf schalke exhibitions gala or so

I pretty much hate it. I fear that the many others do not, and it'll feature more and more.

It's not a question how many like it but if the big nations like it. If they do then it's a wrap and the single mixed relay is here to stay. I don't think it happens at the WOG, two relays is too much tbh.

I’m certain it will be on the program in 2026.

Only if they remove the individual alltogether. Again, it's down to the leverage by the big nations. If single mixed relay becomes a Germany/Norway/France/Italy/Russia/Sweden playground then it doesn't make any sense other than rich getting richer. Poland once won a WC medal in the defunct team event and it hasn't translated to any success for our relay over the long run either.

    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
