Now that the Aquatics and Fencing Worlds are done, what are the next big events to follow before the Athletics Worlds?

Summer University Games and Jeux de la Francophonie for me. I suppose those might not meet everyone’s definition of “big events” though :p

Definitely looking forward to cycling and sailing worlds. I might try to follow archery world championships as well. If the Commonwealth Youth Games are broadcast, I might follow those too.

I am guessing the Cycling Worlds will be the #1 event of the first half of August and the Sailing Worlds will be a huge event in terms of direct Olympic quotas. I don't care about the Archery and Sport Climbing Worlds, but I am sure many of you will watch those as well. We also got the Judo Masters coming up in Budapest this weekend which will hand out some very important world ranking points.

Athletics at the FISU Games start tomorrow.  Shaping up to be mostly an Asian showdown, I think.

you named them all :d

I'm going to follow all the action...and the Baseball season is entering its crucial phase, "those dog days of August" as they say :cheer:

FISU University Games

For the first half of August FISU Games,  few matches of FIFA WC.  Archery world champs, CWYG in T&T, sailing world champs provided there's streaming. I don't have an appetite for cycling worlds not even minutely just like swimming so I don't care about it.

Not any seconds to the Universiade, that isn't event a fair sport event

No one asked European nations to send less athlethes or withdraw. Purely their problem. All the results have been very fair until now except a few in Wushu where anyhow Asians dominate. If your archers, shooters or  juodkas don't perform that's not the games' problem.

Yeah, I don’t feel like the University Games have fallen into disrepair or something. Entry numbers are down, but given the circumstances, not terrible I suppose.

The lack of replays is annoying, but the broadcasts are pretty good when I can catch stuff live. (I realize I sound like a broken record here, but I really am annoyed with the FISU)

Wait, what? I don't spoke about boycott, Italy sent a team and we take it seriously. I didn't ever attent at the past Universiade, that was LITERALLY in my university. I was in the same campus, and I didn't attend at a single fencing event.

I'm just a against the competitive university sport :)

As an American, this is very foreign concept. We literally fill 90,000 seat stadiums (for American Football) and see an annual decrease in job productivity during the men’s basketball tournament.

That said, more funding on academics and less focus on sports programs might not hurt our education system. College sports are generally viewed as incredibly important stepping stones for our Olympic athletes though.

    • Finals are set    An all-Canadian final on the women’s side, as Team Homan looks to win their third title of the season (and improve to 18-1) against a hungry Team Einarson who have had a less than ideal start to the season, they were also the last Canadian team to beat Homan over a year ago (same event coincidentally), while on the men’s side it’ll be a battle between Olympic medalists as Team Mouat goes against Team Gushue!
    • Yeah, it was clear. But i repeat, we need it? I think no.

    • In the past the ISU has now allowed countries without a Federation to compete.
    • yeah I know    I mean it wasn't a different team specific for that sport. it was the same CC team participating in both sports.
    • It is run by a different federation though
    • from what I heard , Iran has registered to participate in Alpine, CC skiing, SkiMo, Skating (they didn't mention which discipline ) and ... (this one will be surprising ) ... Curling    Curling is not a sure thing yet, the NOC has to approve it. the team is very new. I mean very very new, only few months ago they gathered few people to start the sport  you can't lose 100-0 in Curling, right ?    anyway it will be first time ever Iran participating outside of FIS disciplines. ( I didn't count Ski orienteering in 2011 which was the same as CC)   nobody cares about winter sports here. therefore finishing last won't have consequences. they can afford sending very weak teams. (which is not the case for the main Asian Games)
    • World Junior Championships ( Dushanbe)   Day #4 Medallists   women's -78kg Gold:  Brenda Olaya Silver:  Mathilda Sophie Niemeyer Bronze:  Eva Ronja Buddenkotte &  Dandara Camilo   women's +78kg Gold:  Lee Hyeon Ji Silver:  Celia Cancan Bronze:  Chihiro Yamaguchi &  Safa Soliman   men's -100kg Gold:  Mukhammadsodik Sodikov Silver:  Nozomu Miki Bronze:  Azhdar Baghirov &  Fares Mekhoukh   men's +100kg Gold:  Denis Batchaev Silver:  Kanan Nasibov Bronze:  Saba Kardava &  Ibrahim Tataroglu
    • 100 days to go until the first multi-sports games of the 2025
    • 11 medals out of 15 athletes. for whatever reason  we sent an incomplete team of 16 athletes (only 1 left for tomorrow) I wish I knew why  I can guess though   the result is indeed very good in such a competitive sport but lack of talent was never our problem in taekwondo. it was always there probably much more than any other country.    but the problem is the transition to the senior team. most of previous junior world champions never even made the senior team. (the new federation is doing better in this regard though)
