Women's Curling WCF World Championship 2023

Recommended Posts

Switzerland-Sweden and Norway-Canada for semi finals.

Hasselborg/SWE was the last team to best Tirinzoni/SUI in a world championship game, but that was 35 games ago. I almost not want Sweden to win, just because Switzerland does not deserve to miss the final after so many wins against a team with 5 losses in this championship

So, Sweden started 2-3 and still made the SF while Germany missed out? :coffee:

Think :GBR Rhona Martin when she won Olympic Gold started even worse than that.

Both GB golds, 2002 and 2022 came after 5-4 in the round Robin :d

btw when my team won the Swedish super league recently (12 teams, and semifinals). A team Starting 2-4 ended up in the final, almost winning  the final

I don't remember the exact RR results however I have an impression curling is more competitive these days? How is :GBR looking w/o Muirhead though? I seem to recall there was a minor dust-up few years back that Muirhead got all the championship selections by default instead of some domestic prelims like they have in Canada?

There is always a bit of controversy.  By default we use an established team, like Bruce Mouat in the men's.  When it's an emergency - like Muirhead last season when she had to go to the last chance Olympic Quals - the authorities insisted on picking the team.

Alina Pätz on her way to her 7th (5 previous for women and 1 mixed doubles) World championship title. Amazing. But would probably need an olympic medal and a european gold to also be considered the best ever

:NOR Had a couple of good chances for decent scores, even a chance at a game winning two in the final end, but didn’t take them so the :SUI streak continues.

    • It’s honestly baffling how bad she was in 2018. Just absolutely lost her head. Real shame too because she is so gifted. I do hope Li Jianrou sends her a Christmas card every year tho, she was absolutely gifted a gold medal by Christie in 2014.
    • Oh I’m not done yet, unfortunately. From the names that could be back but are still injured   Courtney Hoffos Mikael Kingsbury (should be back before the Olympics) Connor Howe (he returned, but nowhere close to his best so his injury is still giving him issues) Connor Bedard Meryeta O’Dine Megan Oldham
    • Italy also has its own list, although of course not every injury is as terribile  in terms of medal losses. In winter sports have unfortunately much more injuries than summer sports. In the summer only: cycling, volleyball and football.     - Brignone: will return in January, - Tabanelli: will return for the Olympics, - Bassino: season over, - Marta Rossetti: season over, - Lara Malsinier: season over.
    • TNT staff expect they will offer it at a price similar to what they offering the Winter Olympics for rather than the full TNT price.   But equally the main coverage is apparently going to be very different to what they do for the Olympics (Which is less pundits and studio chat than the BBC) with speculation it might be based on NBC’s Olympic coverage with tons of human interest etc.
    • India Sherret (ski cross)   Another name to the ever-growing list of injuries for the Canadian team… used to be excited for the Olympics, now not so much…
    • Voted  Thank you for extending the deadline and allowing me to vote once my exams are over. @OlympicIRL
