as already written, raised, educated and trained all of his life in Italy (in Athletics, he's a 100% Gianni Ghidini's creature -like :BIH Tuka, :ITA Benvenuti and :ITA Longo and also a few Kenians...he's a well known coach of 800m specialists).

They didn't naturalise him. His mother is British and he has dual nationality. He could have chosen to compete for either GB or the Netherlands. On the one hand competition is obviously on a different scale in the Netherlands but then so is the available support for skaters. His girlfriend and business partner is British so that may also have influenced his choice.

Obviously GB officials listened to me ...

Overall insane winter sport results for GB this season. I think they might have won more medals than Finland for example?

The results have bern remarkable by GB winter sports standards across a whole range of winter sports. I'm not sure how much of this is down to improvement and how much is down to competitors from more traditional winter sports countries taking the foot off the pedal in the year after the Olympics. We'll have a better idea this time next year.

The main thing is that he wasn't good enough to make it into the Dutch junior teams back in the day, and so he choose the GB way to compete internationally. Excellent choice, because he's been steadily improving season by season and especially this season is really showing his talent. So much that a bronze is a bit of a surprise, sure, but not even a huge sensation anymore, which says quite a lot about how good his development has been!

Lives in Heemstede, I believe, for what it's worth :p
