Looking forward to the VNL, Canada needs to go something like 8-4 and hope the loser of Dominican Republic/Netherlands goes 4-8 in order to qualify to the Olympics.

The quality of wins & losses obviously matters too, but this is to give a general idea the difficulty we have to close a 30 point gap.

Well, after tomorrow's matches the difference between Netherlands and Canada won't be 30 points. If Netherlands lose against Dominican Republic (f.e. 0-3) and Canada wins against Czech Republic (3-0), the difference is only 11/12 points. Not an unrealistic scenario, given the shape of The Netherlands and Dominican Republic in this tournament.

In the VNL there are plenty of opportunities for the Netherlands and Canada to win and score a lot of points. Many higher ranked countries will rest their stars ahead of the Olympics. The draw and the order of the matches will be decisive in the battle for the last ticket. For example: it makes a big difference whether you play against Serbia without Boskovic in the first week, or with Boskovic in week 3. So when the schedule is announced, we will know more.

The above is subject to the condition that Germany does not qualify for the Games this weekend. Otherwise there will be no tickets left for Canada and the Netherlands.

That's that main thing. Brazil had 8 wins combining South American Championships and the first 4 matches of the qualifiers, which counted for only +8.6 points since all teams placed lower than Brazil in the ranking. And then a single loss for Turkey yesterday costed -7.2. So If :CAN wins against better placed teams, maybe they have a chance.

That's because Brazil is ranked so much higher than their opponents. Before your match with Turkiye, your strongest opponent was Argentina which you outrank by around 175 points.

Canada on the other hand has fewer points and besides South Korea everyone in the VNL will give us more points for a win than what Brazil got in that string of victories. If we do end up with an 8-4 record we'd have to defeat a couple of teams in the top 6 which will give us massive points.

Looks like Italy and Poland will play for an Olympic quota. The loser could qualify, but requires the United States to lose to Germany

Poland can qualify with a loss only if they lose to Italy with more sets won than USA vs Germany.

USA only needs to win two sets vs Germany and they qualify no matter what is the result of Italy vs Poland.

Poland basically has to win at least two sets to stand a chance. If they lose 1-3 the only result for them is Germany win 3-0 which is the least probable out of the entire set IMO.

Mission improbable for the Dutch team, but then I’m a natural born pessimist.

But crazy how far the Dutch team has progressed under Koslowski, compared to last year’s disappointment at the Worlds, and the general decline of the last 4 years.

Koslowski has created the nucleus of a competitive team, bringing in talented youngsters. Interesting to see how this team will progress in the run up to 2028.

So: USA 27 out of 36, Poland 21 out of 36, Italy 24 out of 36.

Well deserved. Netherlands played okay today, but simply not good enough.
