Apparently the head of the organizing committee said he still doesn't rule out the possibility of a last minute cancellation. The Games can be in danger if shit truly hits the fan in the next couple of days.

What was he doing there in the first place, considering Uganda has no weightlifting quota?

Edit: I see, he was on a waiting list and had been informed he didn't make it. Was in Japan in case he would, makes sense. Sad though..

He has been found

Impossible. I think they are only attempting to cover themselves and claim they were deliberating until the last moment if indeed shit hits the fan later during the Games.

he's proven wrong even before saying that by the Japanese Prime Minister, by the IOC President (Olympic Champion in Fencing in 1976 himself) Bach and by the Emperor of Japan, Naruhito, who confirmed he's going to the Opening Ceremony in full support of the Olympic Games...

by the way, this is a clear proof of the Japanese hypocracy about the Games...

the Olympics must go on behind closed doors, but their regular activity, Basketball National team warmup matches included, can be played with at least 50% capacity crowd...in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, not on the Moon...

It’s because the Olympics have become so unpopular in Japan that it has become a consequence of being an electoral issue.

Through it’s also because individual cities have the power to to be into an emergency and Tokyo city is a different entity to the wider metropolitan area.

The biggest effect of all this is finding a host for the 2030 Winter Olympics. No way will Sapporo be able to get the people onside. Salt Lake City and Vancouver seem to be only two realistic options and both are flawed.

Munich might be an option if the European Championships are successful

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
