"If the athlete was not able to compete in the final and would have receive a diploma for their participation, they will receive that.

What a wonderful consolation...

It’s not that fair as it looks. it’s humanitarian but not fairness. For example, I lost in semi final but my opponent found COVID positive after that so I advance in final. And then I cherish this opportunity a lot, I defeated my opponent in final so I am the champion. To conclude I lost semifinal but I am the champion just because my opponent got a specific virus called COVID. But if he withdrew due to diarrhea then it’s a another story.

I wouldn't agree. Athletes can still choose to compete if they have diarrhea. They are forbidden to compete if they have COVID.

For the withdrawer more or less similar, it's both very unlucky for them. But for their opponents(and opponents' future opponents), not for withdrawers, it's the real unfair part. Why could they benefit from opponents's withdrawal for one specific reason? They could withdraw for 100 reasons, but one of them makes me go to the next round.

So basically an athlete who does not start, will be listed as did not start.

The six day rule might really mess up Tennis and Golf where the participants are less devoted to the games.

Also I do wonder how many participants will be caught breaking rules - over the Covid crisis a lot of sport stars have come across as pretty idiotic and unable to follow the rules even when breaking them has consequences for their dreams and ambitions.

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
