I can fully expect EG being moved to a different city in Poland to avoid backlash.

I could fully expect Poznań being interested as with YOG or Universiade... as well as not getting any government money on that for even more political reasons :P

So the European Games are getting their combat sports inflation once again.

That would be great. The games without athletics would be a shame.

If they could add swimming, too, that would be awesome.

Sport Climbing

I really enjoyed Triathlon at Baku 2015. Great to see it back on the program.

Well, Poland has some world champions in speed climbing so it was hyped during the previous EG. Obviously nobody knows these names here other than this 5 minutes of EG glory

Speed Climbing hasn’t featured at the European Games yet. Perhaps you’re thinking of the 2017 World Games (in Wroclaw) or latest European/World Championships?

Yeah, Poland will definitely look for some medals in Speed Climbing.

I won't pretend I know anything about sport climbing... speed or otherwise... I assume they are featured together since the wall will be the same? Just different hooks or whatever those things are called :p

No, all three have distinct walls, scoring systems, and climbing styles (though Boulder and Lead are somewhat similar). Most gyms will have Boulder and Lead walls, while Speed are a somewhat rare. Speed walls are uniform, while the others have basic requirements, but different construction from venue to venue. Speed and Lead use a belay (rope maned to be someone or fixed to a point), while Boulder uses no belay.

The “hooks” (not a bad term for that honestly), are generally called clips or carabiners.

My guess is that all three disciplines will feature at the European Games in some capacity (whether as separate events, combined, or other).

    • c'mon! stop those idiots! they're trying hard to ruin athletics in almost every aspect (road running, field events, the same cross country that has already been killed in practice)   please, someone shoot to death Coe and his accolades as soon as possible!!!
    • That's only if they don't listen to Trump's 48 hour deadline. But that is permanently 48 hours away, since, well, TACO.
    • I agree NO to Poomsae!!!   I think they plan to introduce 6 weight classes after LA instead of 8 right now, and those 6 should become Olympic instead of current 4 weights. Going forward world and Olympic ranking could be identical.    But it’s not clear if that means more quotas. Having 6 classes with 64 athletes per gender would be a joke. A reasonable taekwondo competition needs at least 16 athletes per weightclass. But I am not sure taekwondo can get another 64 quotas in total, I doubt it.    beside that I am not happy with the newly proposed weight classes, they give much more focus on light weight athletes, which will be an advantage for Asian countries mainly.    if the proposal is accepted the new weightclasses will be:    Female: 46kg, 51kg, 57kg, 63kg,70kg and +70kg    Male: 54kg, 60kg, 67kg,74kg, 82kg, +82kg
