Monzanator 3,612 Posted September 9, 2018 #441 Share Posted September 9, 2018 This thread should be about Osaka and the rise of next generation of tennis stars. The first Japanese GS winner. But no, nobody cares about her because Serena this and Serena that. She buckled under pressure and showed what a sore loser she really is. Maybe she will boycott USO like she boycotted Indian Wells before?
Federer91 2,171 Posted September 9, 2018 #442 Share Posted September 9, 2018 (edited) Williams antics Her true behavior always shows, when things are not going her way. I have lost count how many times she has used the victim card over the years. Edited September 9, 2018 by Federer91
LDOG 2,199 Posted September 9, 2018 #443 Share Posted September 9, 2018 I didn't watch the match but I understand all this happened just because of some coaching warning? I fail to see the connection between that and sexism, are there statistics that show that women get this type of warning more often than men or something? I don’t know if Compton is universally known or if racism and sexism are issues in foreign countries, but this forum has let me down today Oh come on. Do not even start getting out the racism and sexism card in this situation. Williams acted like a spoiled brat who could not stand she was losing and absolutely lost her shit, taking away almost all of the glory and happiness of Osaka's first Grand Slam title. I do not give a flying fuck if Williams is black, white, orange, purple with green dots, Martian, male, female, Caitlyn Jenner or whatever, behave like a champion, not like a kid who can't have another cookie. If I'm not mistaken, she got a coaching warning at a point where she already had an earlier warning for messing up her racket. She then went on to call umpire Carlos Ramos a thief ("Yeah I called you a thief because you stole a point!"), which resulted in him giving her another warning and, due to that being the 3rd one, a game penalty (free game for Osaka). I believe that's when she called for the tournament directors and everyone possibly involved to get to the court, where she started about how this happened too often to her (look in the mirror, maybe?) and that she has a daughter. heywoodu 13,574 Posted September 9, 2018 #446 Share Posted September 9, 2018 In the press conference: "Ramos never stole a game from a man after being called a thief, this is sexism." Ramos didn't 'steal' a game 'because she called him a thief'. He handed Osaka a game because it was Williams' third violation, not because of that individual situation. stefanbg 155 Posted September 9, 2018 #448 Share Posted September 9, 2018 What a disgrace for tennis with today's attitude by Williams and the spectators afterwards. This match should have been ended by the moment she started harassing the umpire. Monzanator and crovitlaci
Monzanator 3,612 Posted September 9, 2018 #449 Share Posted September 9, 2018 Tennis must be the only sport where players are allowed to abuse the refs and think they can get away with it. In NFL you put one finger on the umpire and you're thrown out, in football (soccer) you get a red card and you're off but hell, Serena thinks the umpire is her butler and she can treat him like crap. She run into a frickin' wall instead. MHSN

In football people abuse the refs all the time and only sometimes get a yellow, let alone red card for it If football would adopt the same kind of strict rules in protecting referees as rugby or NFL, half the football matches would end up with less than 20 players. I just hope, but very much doubt, Serena Haase learned a lesson and will be a bit better in getting her emotions under control.
