This should be the end of Marta and Pia Sundhage in international football. The game has passed them by for one reason or another.

To be fair, Marta is 37, it's not weird to simply not be at the top of the game anymore :p

Also, mixed feelings. On one hand I had hoped for a good result for Brazil, especially for Bruna and her being annoyed with the thousands of morons on Brazilian social media talking shit about the women's team and how only the men's team matters (you know, those guys like Neymar who spend more time acting than playing and get paid millions and millions), but on the other hand, surprises and stuff like that are what make sports great and so Jamaica qualifying is absolutely amazing :d

As much as this team is a disaster, it's not the girls' fault.

Unfortunately Brazil is a country that only likes to win. They will only have great support here like the men's team when they start winning, that's the reality. Should it be the opposite? Maybe, but that's not how it works.

The media doesn't help either, comparisons between the women's and men's national teams are all too frequent. No one wants to hear that "Marta is better than Pele" or "The women's team would win 5-0 against the men if the two played against each other".

Just saw the highlights, but Italy wtf :yikes:

Extremely silly and hapless defending at the 3-2, after already missing a near open goal opportunity themselves....not to mention that beautiful goal by Orsi, although unfortunately in her own goal....damn, they gave it away, but South Africa does seem to be a fun team :d

It was Marta's last match in the World Cup, she said after the match. I still think she will play in Paris but who knows.

Pia, however, should go immediatley. Hate her decisions since Tokyo.

:BRA :CAN out in group stage, :GER :NOR and :USA with some difficulties. It seems that teams that were great in the past just are not ahead of others anymore.

Early QF predictions (considering Group H goes like expected):

:ESP vs :NED

:JPN vs :SWE

:AUS vs :FRA

:ENG vs :COL

Final should be :ENG vs the winner of :JPN vs :SWE

I know that this won't happen, but:

The women should play on a smaller field and with smaller goals. People don't seem to have a problem with different "standards" in other sports (for example 100/110 m hurdles in athletics with different heights).

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Argentina is world champion on the men's side and irrelevant on the women's side. Belgium is also nowhere to be seen (and of course eastern european and most african countries as well).

We're making progress, league went pro 4 years ago and since last year all clubs must have youth teams all the way to U14 (before they had nothing).

These girls playing for the senior team now basically had no club academy instruction and their technical deficiencies are evident.

I'm hopeful because a lot of girls play football here and they are more and more every year. And obviously there's no shortage of coaches and facilities. It was just a matter of actually caring. The results will be seen in 10 years.
