And the officials are some of the worst people in sport...

not much doping in boxing comparing with the rest , yeah some juries are corrupted just like in taekwondo karate  football gymnastic ....etc

Unfortunately today the AIBA announced they've closed 38 doping cases without punishment and did not give reasons why they did that,

because they are western , they ban africans-russians  only

while 90% of western are positive

A professional boxing tournament without letting amateurs at least attempt to qualify is no good either. Also, if AIBA really wants to play hardball there won't be any recognized national federations either (as they risk being sanctioned by AIBA), though I guess they could go the route of having all the boxers compete under the Olympic flag, but I imagine some young boxers may also not want to risk getting banned from future competitions.

But once IOC de-recognizes AIBA, do the national federations really care about AIBA anymore ??

I wud imagine that other than the few favored nations like Russia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, no one really likes AIBA or cares about them as they keep robbing their boxers. Some powerful boxing nations like USA, UK and Ireland clearly hate AIBA.

Its a little idealistic, and I think eventually all this will just boil over, but the ideal solution for me would be for IOC to suspend AIBA and continue boxing at Tokyo through an interim body. Of course, that doesnt mean only pro boxers. Amateur boxers and proper qualifying tournaments still have to be there. And ideally, a change in the current bogus scoring system.

They will because the assumption is that the suspension will be temporarily. AIBA can take a hardline approach and at the very least would cause the Olympic tournament to be very diluted.

Latest news is that Rakhimov has lost support over the last few days but is still expected to win the election.

Goodbye Olympic boxing...

The election is turning into a disaster.

The voting machines have gone wrong. In a test they show more votes than there are countries represented in AIBA.

    • pdr4332   Explain to me what this Ukraine thing is all about? Isn't this just another Orban tactic to focus on this before the elections, instead of discussing, for example, the fact that during the 16 years of VO's rule in Budapest, Hungary's GDP has fallen from the level of Poland/Czech Republic in 2010 to under Romania's? Does anyone in Hungary still fall for this, because it seems like something like this happens every 4 years: Soros, Brussels, now Ukraine and who will be next

    • I remember when Ferrari dominated inFormula 1 in the early 21st century, the rules were deliberately changed to limit their advantage. Something similar recently happened with Mercedes' dominance after 2020. And here we have a situation where Norway is favored, if the Finns are telling the truth and that's strange – should the richest federation get some extra advantage from FIS? It's certainly better for the popularity of a given discipline to have a more diverse nations on the front, than to have 3 Norwegians skiers at the front with the rest of the world 2 minutes behind. But maybe that will change, because Norway isn't as dominant in the women's competitions without Bjoergen and Johaug. I think the situation will change somewhat after Klaebo's career, even without Rus's return. Without Klaebo, Norway would not have won the entire gold medal here: in the sprint it would have been Ogden from the USA, and in the combined race: Frenchman Desloges.   Of course, the stars like Klaebo and Phelps build the popularity of a their disciplines, but it always takes some kind of great rivalry- a great rival- for people to really take an interest that. For example, in Beijing, Phelps won 8 gold medals, but in the 100 butterfly, there was fierce competition and controversy with battle against Milorad Cavic. In Klaebo's case, this hasn't been that`s case since Bolshunov's exclusion and that certainly has some impact on the overall situation.
