Alexander Markin, russian volleyball player (Meldonium)

According to l'Equipe, Markin was only controlled twice during te Olympic Qualification Tournament. According to FIVB new rules, it could mean that Russia might end up dsiqualified.

But, hey, it's the FIVB and Russia, so I assume they will find a trick not to follow their own rules.

Ukrainian & French scientists together with our biathlon federation sent the new data to IBU.

Ukrainian Biathlon Federation received the letter from IBU.

IBU can initiate the additional meldonium research.

The IBU Medical Committee planned on March 30 as for Tyshchenko & Abramova case can be postponed.

The IBU said that meldonium effects as a doping haven't been scientifically proven as well as timing of the elimination of drugs from the body (Abramova stopped taking those meds on December 10). This new reserach can be about IBU & our sportsmen, it has nothing to do with other cases.

According to the UBF president the transition period (up to 4 months) can be introduced or meldonium can be excluded from the doping list at all (less likely imo).

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
