Apparently tens of sleds got stuck in China and didn't get transported in time for Sochi. Brilliant organization! They must check of course if the athletes were smuggling cocaine in their sleds for the Chinese youth. :)

Just catching up now, but damn, that trip to China seems to have had some consequences with half the field's stuff being gone and/or still in customs :yikes:

Another unwatchable/irregular race in Sochi.

But since the Germans always end up on top in these, FIL has zero incentive to change anything.

FIL has made a key change to the qualification system for Beijing 2022. Instead of all 7 world cups counting, only an athletes best 4 finishes will matter for qualification.

I’m guessing partly COVID, partly the expense of a globe-trotting season.

Partly the sleds being held in China for a whole month. I'm sure no engineers were allowed to inspect it.

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
