icon_oly12.png Gymnastics - Rhythmic: 0 / 0 / 0        The group did quite well at European Champs, but it's still not enough.

icon_oly12.png Gymnastics - Trampoline: 0 / 0 / 0            No way.

icon_oly14.png Handball: 12 / 0 / 0           The men's team is in the biggest slump ever and the only way for them to qualify is to be win European Championsips, but maybe women's one would make it.

icon_oly16.png Judo: 6 / 4 / 3          Not more than a team.

icon_oly29.png Karate: 3 / 2 / 1          Those qoutas are small, but someone should make it.

icon_oly21.png Shooting: 7 / 5 / 3           Simirarly to Rio (5 were there).

icon_oly29.png Skateboarding: 1 / 1 / 0        Amelia Brodka should make it in park, as she's an European Champion.

icon_oly29.png Softball: 0 / 0 / 0                  Our team is able to qualify for the OQT but this is an absolute maximum.

icon_oly29.png Sport Climbing: 2 / 1 / 0         We have specialists in speed, but I think someone will be able to qualify for the combined.

icon_oly29.png Surfing: 0 / 0 / 0         Two guys in this country do it, but they're not good enough.

icon_oly03.png Swimming: 22 / 18 / 14       Maybe a bit less than in Rio (there were 20).

icon_oly22.png Table Tennis: 6 / 6 / 4     Probably both teams as in Rio.

icon_oly23.png Taekwondo: 6 / 4 / 2        Should be better than in Rio (2 men were there).

icon_oly24.png Tennis: 8 / 5 / 3            Probably 1 man in singles and pair in doubles and 2 women in singles and pair in doubles. So someone will start in mixed as always.

icon_oly25.png Triathlon: 2 / 1 / 0       Probably one woman.

icon_oly26.png Volleyball: 12 / 12 / 0            Men's team should make it.

icon_oly03.png Water Polo: 0 / 0 / 0            We're just weak.

icon_oly27.png Weightlifting: 5 / 4 / 3                Don't care because doping btw...

icon_oly28.png Wrestling: 11 / 9 / 7             Little more than in Rio (8 were there).

2020Tokyo.png.5b0ae7e11858b8cd415a9f2123 Total Sports: 33 / 30 / 22

2020Tokyo.png.5b0ae7e11858b8cd415a9f2123 Realistic Total Athletes: 238 (5 less than in Rio)

2020Tokyo.png.5b0ae7e11858b8cd415a9f2123 Pessimistic Total Athletes: 155 (fewest since Seoul 1988 - 143)

I am unashamed, at getting nothing done.

:-) To byłoby moje marzenie. Pozdrawiam serdecznie. RG

Yeah, Europeans don't need to worry about being "tourists" if they can qualify through world or continental qualifiers.

Oh yeah,    I say the same all the time. Why not to send someone who went through the world or continental qualies. Or made the A or B standards in athletics or swimming. Because leaving some of them at home is our Polish speciality, sad but true.

Poland isn't too bad, maybe they left out a few people in athletics or decline to replace an injured athlete with another one. The Netherlands and Sweden are pretty bad, while in swimming for France they won't let you in unless you have a legit chance for a medal.

Brazilian Olympic Committee wants to qualify 250 athletes for the Tokyo Olympics. I mostly agree with this number, even though I think they're a little optimistic.

icon_oly01.png Archery: 4 2 1

Brazil should qualify an athlete for each of the individual events (and with some luck, maybe even a men's team)

icon_oly03.png Artistic Swimming: 2 0 0

Federation doesn't seem to have much interest in this sport anymore and Brazil got worse in both events. A duet might be possible but even at the South American Games we didn't win gold.

icon_oly02.png Athletics: 50 40 30

I have no idea but I will guess a number close to the last World Championship (39).

icon_oly04.png Badminton: 2 1 1

Ygor Coelho should qualify in Men's Singles.

icon_oly29.png Baseball: 0

icon_oly05.png Basketball: 12 0 0

It's sad but we probably won't see our female team at the Olympics for the first time since 1992. The men's team might qualify but I wouldn't bet on it. The federation has zero interest about 3x3 so no chance of qualification there.

icon_oly26.png Beach Volleyball: 8 8 4

Brazil will easily reach the maximum quota here.

icon_oly06.png Boxing: 6 3 2

Most of the best athletes from the last Olympic cycles are gone, but we should at least qualify 2 men and 1 woman.

icon_oly07.png Canoeing - Slalom: 3 2 1

We should qualify 1 man (maybe 2) and 1 woman.

icon_oly07.png Canoeing - Sprint: 6 5 3

Brazil has the potential to qualify a full team in Canoe (4 to 6 athletes). As for Kayak, I'm not sure about our chances.

icon_oly08.png Cycling - BMX: 2 2 1

1 athlete from each gender. None for Freestyle.

icon_oly08.png Cycling - Mountain Bike: 3 2 2

1 athlete from each gender (maybe even 2 men).

icon_oly08.png Cycling - Road: 4 2 2
At least 1 for each gender, but maybe even more.

icon_oly08.png Cycling - Track: 2 1 0

1 athlete? Maybe none.

icon_oly03.png Diving: 3 1 0

Oof. That's a rough one. Most athletes from previous cycles are gone and the new generation is not that great. Maybe Ingrid Oliveira qualified, but I wouldn't be surprised if not.

icon_oly09.png Equestrian: 11 9 6

Eventing and Jumping teams, I guess? + 1 in Dressage.

icon_oly10.png Fencing: 8 6 4

1 Men's team (Foil?) + 3 individual athletes is possible.

icon_oly15.png Field Hockey: 0

icon_oly11.png Football: 36 18 18

Women's team is already qualified. As for the men, it will be harder (only 2 qualification spots for South America and Brazil's under-20 team is not really that good).

icon_oly13.png Golf: 2 1 1

No idea, maybe 1 man.

icon_oly12.png Gymnastics - Artistic: 8 8 5

Both teams have a decent chance of qualifying, but I don't think we will qualify individual athletes that are not part of the teams (unless, of course, if one of the teams doesn't qualify).

icon_oly12.png Gymnastics - Rhythmic: 6 0 0

It's hard to qualify in both events, but with the addition of Continental Championships as qualifications events, Brazil has a shot in groups. Gáudio is also better than she used to be in the individual event, so who knows...

icon_oly12.png Gymnastics - Trampoline: 1 0 0

Extremely hard qualification.

icon_oly14.png Handball: 28 14 14

Even if our level is not the same, I don't think we'll have much trouble in qualifying the women's team. About the men, it's always 50/50.

icon_oly16.png Judo: 14 12 10

Some time ago, I would say Brazil could qualify a full team here, but right now we're really bad in some of the men's events.

icon_oly29.png Karate: 4 2 2

Difficult qualification but Brazil has 3 athletes among the best in world rankings, which could indicate that they will at least qualify to Tokyo.

icon_oly17.png Modern Pentathlon: 2 1 0

Nobody close to the level of Yane Marques but continental qualification might help us.

icon_oly18.png Rowing: 3 1 0

Probably the one sport in which Brazil had zero progress in the last decade, not even with the home Olympics. But even being bad at this sport we usually manage to qualify a few athletes.

icon_oly19.png Rugby Sevens: 12 12 0

The women's team will probably qualify.

icon_oly20.png Sailing: 10 9 8

5 athletes (3 boats) are already qualified. 8 or 9 athletes (for a total of 6 or 7 boats) are very much possible.

icon_oly21.png Shooting: 4 3 2

3 to 4 men are possible, I guess?

icon_oly29.png Skateboarding: 10 8 6

Realistically, Brazil should qualify 2 athletes for each event (maybe even 3 in Street)

icon_oly29.png Softball: 0

icon_oly29.png Sport Climbing: 0

icon_oly29.png Surfing: 4 4 3

Full quota.

icon_oly03.png Swimming: 24 20 16

Like in the last world championships, Brazil should have a moderate number of athletes competing in the pool. It's likely that we'll also qualify 2 athletes in Marathon Swimming.

icon_oly22.png Table Tennis: 6 4 4

Men's team + at least one athlete in Women's Singles (team is also possible).

icon_oly23.png Taekwondo: 3 2 1
Very hard qualification. 1 man and maybe 1 woman should qualify.

icon_oly24.png Tennis: 5 3 2
Dire situation in Men's Singles (I don't think we will qualify anyone via ranking, unless there is massive withdrawals). Men's Doubles and maybe 1 woman (Haddad Maia) can qualify.

icon_oly25.png Triathlon: 2 2 1

1 athlete for each individual event.

icon_oly26.png Volleyball: 24 24 24

Only a disaster could prevent Brazil of qualifying both teams.

icon_oly03.png Water Polo: 11 0 0

Difficult for the men's team. Impossible for the women.

icon_oly27.png Weightlifting: 4 2 1

Federation is too messy and is basically preventing some athletes of achieve better results. Reis should qualify but otherwise nothing is certain (probably 1 woman).

icon_oly28.png Wrestling: 3 2 1

Qualification of 2 women is possible.

I disagree with this. IMO, the more, the better. You already Need a good Performance to qualify, so I wouldn't call them tourists. Especially not in Badminton doubles, where only 16 doubles per discipline are allowed.

You still think so, even after the horror german fans had to witness at the european championships (especially in track events on the mens side)?

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Yes, I still think so. And I will continue to think so, no matter how bad some results will be. And I have seen many bad Championships from german athletes in different sports and none of these changed my mind. ;)

And aside from that: Despite some disappointments, which every federation had, I am very satisfied with the german athletes in Berlin. So far Germany has won the most medals, so clearly it couldn't have been all that horrible. Especially compared to Zürich four years ago, which really was a severe disappointment for Germany.

CZECH REPUBLIC :CZE

Keep editing this post. (Last update: 18:46CET)

icon_oly01.png Archery: Currently there is nobody capable to qualify to Tokyo.

icon_oly03.png Artistic Swimming:

:CZECzech Women's Team

Czech synchronized swimming has been forming a young talented team which might succeed to qualify for Tokyo 2020. The first chance is that they finish 1st - 7th place at the World Aquatics championship 2019 in South Korea. If so, they will qualify team and automatically also a duet. The second chance would be at the 2020 Final Olympic qualifying tournament, where will be given other 3 spots for teams.

:CZE Czech Women's Duet

If Czech women's qualifies, automatically is qualified also duet. If not, there are other ways how to qualify a duet. First, Czech duet would have to place at the first position of non-qualified countries at the 2019 European champions Cup. Last chance would be at the final Olympic qualifying tournament, where will compete countries which will have not qualified any swimmers. There will be selected other 7 duets to compete at the Olympics.

icon_oly29.png Baseball: :CZE Czech Men's Team

The way how Czech team can qualify is following. At the European baseball championships 2019 they have to place from 1st to 5th place to earn the spot in Europe/Africa qualifying event, which will be held in February 2020. At this event will be 6 teams and only 1 will make it to Olympics. If Czech team does not win this tournament, but will place second, earns the spot for the last qualifying event which will be held in March or April 2020. Six teams will compete. Three of the teams will come from runners-up in the qualifying events above (second place in Africa/Europe, second and third places in Americas). Two more spots in this event will be granted to the best two finishers in the 2019 Asian Baseball Championship that have not already qualified for the Olympics. The winner of the 2019 Oceania qualifying event will also earn a spot in this tournament. From this final qualifying tournament, only one team will make it to Olympics.

How to qualify: Czech team qualified after long 37 years to World Championships, which will be in 2019 in China. They can directly qualify to Olympics from there. No matter what place they will rank, they have to be at most second best European team. This will give them certainty to participate Tokyo 2020. If they will not succeed, there will be four tournaments of Olympic qualification to Tokyo 2020. Each tournament will participate 6 teams and only winner can make it to Olympics. Regarding Czech team qualified for the world championships and if they did not succeed to qualify directly to Olympics, they would probably have sure participation at the Olympic qualifying tournament.

:CZECzech Women's Basketball Team

The only way to qualify for Czech Female team is to succeed in one fo the Olympic qualifying events, which will be held in 2020. Places and dates haven't been established. To earn spot at the Olympic qualifying tournament, Czech female basketball must place on 1st to 6th sport at Women's EuroBasket 2019.

:CZECzech Men's 3x3 Basketball Team

First 4 teams in world ranking as of November 2019 will qualify automatically. Other 16 team will qualify for other 3 qualifying tournaments from which will qualify to Olympics one team from each tournament. Last spot will be given at 2020 FIBA Universality-driven Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where will be 5 highest non-qualified ranked teams. All depends on the federation ranking, not the team ranking.

2020Tokyo.png.5b0ae7e11858b8cd415a9f2123 Realistic Total Athletes: Around 150

2020Tokyo.png.5b0ae7e11858b8cd415a9f2123 Pessimistic Total Athletes: 112

Pretty much agree with this. Not that confident with so many in athletics (will have to wait for standards) and swimming (right now we would have one swimmer with A mark I think) and I´m quite pessimistic about teams. Football who knows, basketball will be hard, handball is always a coin toss... I only see rugby and both hockey teams as sure things.
