Looks like the Cross-Country rankings will give quotas to the 10,000m.

Also the marathon qualification has begun since Nov 1st, the following athletes have met the standard already (I'll only list a max of three athletes per nation, only applied to Ethiopia and Kenya). Unsurprisingly, a bunch of nations have qualified their first athletes

Are these athletes 100% qualified though? What if many more athletes will run better times?

There is a maximum quota of athletes per event (80 for marathon), so potentially even an athlete who scores the world record today could loose the quota if 80 more athletes run a better time after this? :mumble:

If you have the entry standard you are safe

No the numbers are capped and only 50% of the places are available to those who meet the entry standard.

Athletes will be able to qualify in two ways for the Paris 2024 Games, with 50% of qualification places based on achieving the entry standard for an event within the qualification period, and the other 50% based on the World Athletics Ranking within the ranking period.

So I guess that means if there's too many that meet the standard they will take the fastest and the rest need to qualify via ranking.

If so, there are no athletes officially qualified until the very last day to obtain the standard.

No that is not correct

it was the same in Tokio

50% is just an orientation or expectation

The requirement for teams to qualify relays at the 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha has been abandoned.

Quote

Now, qualification will revert to a more traditional process in which the top three finishers at the July 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka will qualify instantly for Paris a year out from the Games.

The remaining 13 berths in each relay will then be decided by the best times set either at Fukuoka or Doha, meaning teams that miss the top three in Fukuoka can still qualify for Paris without sending their best swimmers to the Middle East.

Nations on the borderline of the top 16 will still have to calculate after Fukuoka whether they believe their top 16 effort in Japan is strong enough to resist challenges at the last-chance saloon in Doha but the top 12 or so teams will now feel much more confident that their summer 2023 efforts will get them to Paris.

    • no idea. I just repeated what I read  but I won't be surprised if they make a mistake like this. the officials here are usually terrible in reading the rules. if I remember correctly they sent an Ice hockey team to the Games back in 2017 but most of the players were ineligible to play per IIHF rules and they played some friendlies instead    btw there is a federation, but not an ISU member. Ice Skating (which has a very very limited activity here) was a part of Skating (roller sports) federation but now moved to Skiing federation which officially changed its name to Skiing and Winter Sports Federation.
