Also the marathon qualification has begun since Nov 1st, the following athletes have met the standard already (I'll only list a max of three athletes per nation, only applied to Ethiopia and Kenya). Unsurprisingly, a bunch of nations have qualified their first athletes Men's Marathon Kelvin Kiptum - 2:01:53 Gabriel Geay - 2:03:00 Alexander Munyao - 2:03:29 Tamirat Tola - 2:03:40 Kaan Ozbilen - 2:04:36 Deso Gelmisa - 2:04:56 Timothy Kiplagat - 2:05:20 Milkesa Mengesha - 2:05:29 Goitom Kifle - 2:06:09 Maru Teferi - 2:06:43 Isaac Mpofu - 2:06:48 Nicolas Navarro - 2:07:01 Zerei Mezngi - 2:07:10 Hiskel Tewelde - 2:07:11 Tariku Novales - 2:07:18 Brett Robinson - 2:07:31 Ayad Lamdassem - 2:07:39 Abdelaziz Merzougui - 2:08:00 Abdi Nageeye - Top 5 Platinum Race Reda El Aaraby - Top 5 Platinum Race Suguru Osako - Top 5 Platinum Race Women's Marathon Amane Shankule - 2:14:58 Letesenbet Gidey - 2:16:49 Shelia Chepkirui - 2:17:29 Tadu Teshome - 2:17:36 Fancy Chemutai - 2:18:11 Dolshi Tesfu - 2:20:40 Eunice Chumba - 2:20:41 Majida Maayouf - 2:21:01 Angela Tanui - 2:21:12 Sinead Diver - 2:21:34 Rebecca Cheptegei - 2:22:47 Lonah Salpeter - 2:23:30 Bojana Bjeljac - 2:23:39 Giovanna Epis - 2:23:53 Irvette van Zyl - 2:26:11 Marta Galimany - 2:26:14 Natasha Cockram - 2:26:14 Caroline Wikstrom - 2:26:14 Aliphine Tuliamuk - 2:26:18 Gladys Tejeda - 2:26:26 Georgina Schwiening - 2:26:28 Are these athletes 100% qualified though? What if many more athletes will run better times? There is a maximum quota of athletes per event (80 for marathon), so potentially even an athlete who scores the world record today could loose the quota if 80 more athletes run a better time after this? Quote Athletes will be able to qualify in two ways for the Paris 2024 Games, with 50% of qualification places based on achieving the entry standard for an event within the qualification period, and the other 50% based on the World Athletics Ranking within the ranking period. https://olympics.com/en/news/how-to-qualify-paris-2024-athletics-qualification-system-explained So I guess that means if there's too many that meet the standard they will take the fastest and the rest need to qualify via ranking. No that is not correct it was the same in Tokio 50% is just an orientation or expectation Sindo
JoshMartini007 2,202 Posted December 21, 2022 #389 Share Posted December 21, 2022 The 50% rule is more of a suggestion. The hope is that the standards are so difficult that only around 50% of the quotas will be filled and the rest will be filled by the rankings. It's similar to the "Road to Budapest" Sindo
dullard 409 Posted December 22, 2022 #390 Share Posted December 22, 2022 The requirement for teams to qualify relays at the 2024 World Aquatic Championships in Doha has been abandoned. Quote Now, qualification will revert to a more traditional process in which the top three finishers at the July 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka will qualify instantly for Paris a year out from the Games. The remaining 13 berths in each relay will then be decided by the best times set either at Fukuoka or Doha, meaning teams that miss the top three in Fukuoka can still qualify for Paris without sending their best swimmers to the Middle East. Nations on the borderline of the top 16 will still have to calculate after Fukuoka whether they believe their top 16 effort in Japan is strong enough to resist challenges at the last-chance saloon in Doha but the top 12 or so teams will now feel much more confident that their summer 2023 efforts will get them to Paris. https://www.stateofswimming.com/world-aquatics-hears-athlete-coach-voices-to-lift-doha-relays-lock-for-paris-olympics/ Topicmaster1010 and phelps 1
