:FRA 6th in team sprint women’s ? are you sure ?

They are currently 6th but...

:CAN still have their continental championships to come so will gain 600+ points and would overtake France

:NED did not compete at Adelaide Nations Cup and France did so Netherlands still have 2 events to count whereas France only have 1 more

I'm not as pessimistic as that - in my opinion France have a decent shot at getting the last quota but it does need everything to work in their favour.

First, they need Mexico to win the continental champs ahead of Canada. That would give Canada an additional 607.5 points, giving them an adjusted lead over France of 168.75.

Then, at both of the remaining Nations Cups, France would likely need to finish at least 2 places higher than Canada.

Quite unlikely looking at the entries for Hong Kong. All of the main contenders will be there, bar Canada. France will have a hard time bettering the 5th place from Adelaide. Everything will then be decided in Milton, where I guess a lot of teams won't appear so good luck making up for those points.

Asian Continental championships get underway in New Dehli :IND later today.

Do you have the schedule/programme of these championships? It looks impossible to find it on the Indian website/social media pages.

Do we know how many ranking points are left to win? We must be getting to the stage where some nations are mathematically secure?

There are only 3 qualifying events left (and for most just 2)

Nations Cup:

Round 2 - Hong Kong 15-Mar

Round 3 - Milton 12-Apr

Continental Champs:

Pan American Champs 3-Apr

For Team Pursuit, a maximum of 3200 points are available from NC events with further 900 for either Canada or USA from Cont. Champs.

For Team Sprint, a maximum of 2400 points are available from NC events with further 675 for Canada, USA or Mexico from Cont. Champs.

And with the rankings being based on best 2 of 3 Nations Cup results, we will have most quotas mathematically confirmed after Hong Kong

    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.

    • yes, there are (or there was, at least) don't forget that the women's 800m had world and olympic champions like Semenya, Jelimo and Nyonsaba...basically, it was 10 years of DSD winners only the same Athing Mu was suspected to be DSD (never confirmed, but somehow she totally disappeared after Tokyo) then, there were the 2 girls from Namibia (1 won a medal over 200m in Tokyo) in Italy we have the living scandal Valentina Petrillo (a paralympian!!!), who's actually a real man not to mention the weightlifter from who took part into the Tokyo Games so, it's a real problem all around the globe, not just a US crusade against a few woke idiots
