Actual substantiated rumors?  Or more like the buzz we heard the week leading up to the Olympics where it was like "we're monitoring the situation closely" and some media outlets were like "they might cancel the Olympics"

Apparently the meeting of the Japanese Government involved discussing it - and Biden put out a statement which came across as if it was him urging them not to cancel it.

Any country improving their medal total this time will be a big achievement with the return of Russia (RPC). :GBR is expected to win up to 50 medals less - the swimming squad is nit expected to perform as well as before and the Athletics and cycling squad are majority not first time Paralympian’s which brings experience but also the effects of aging.

:JPN at the last Paralympics didn’t win a single gold despite wining 24 medals. The performance of :FRA will be important in building a successful games in three years time.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Off to Milan for the 145th session of the International Olympic Committee. Although the agenda has not been published yet, there shouldn’t be any major items over these two days, apart from the election of a member of the IOC Executive Board. This will be the eighth time the session is held in Italy, the last one being during the Turin 2006 Olympic Games.
